**Start Date**:Immediate

**Hourly Wage**: $29.00 to $32.00 per hour dependent on experience. This is a benefitted position after the probationary period.

This position is responsible for providing immediate trauma-informed, client-centered services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma. This position serves the North Cowichan-Duncan, Lake Cowichan and Shawnigan Lake RCMP detachments.

**Key duties**:

- Responsible for providing immediate crisis support, intervention and follow up to victims/witnesses/families of crime and trauma with Police at scene, hospital or by phone.
- Assist Police with victims at Police scene, hospital, or RCMP Detachment providing crisis intervention supports to victims/witnesses and their families/friends.
- Provide information, at scene with Police, about processes with the Coroner/Funeral Homes to families of Sudden Deaths and Notification of Kins.
- Provide information to victims, by phone or in person, around Protection Orders, Legal Information, Police file updates and referrals to other agencies when required.
- Provide safety planning to victims for housing, legal resources, financial assistance and CVAP.
- Assist in providing Court updates to victims/witnesses including attending meetings with Crown Counsel, preparing victims/witnesses for Court and attending Court trials/hearings with them (working with RCMP Victim Services Court Liaison Case worker).
- Be aware of Victims Rights under the Victims of Crime act and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights.
- Act as a liaison between victims/witnesses to social service agencies such as MCFD and Cowichan Tribes and other community agencies.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with RCMP, Cowichan Women Against Violence Society, and other service providers within the Criminal Court system, Government entities, RCMP affiliates and hospital.
- Assist victims/witnesses of Crime and other trauma as per mandated services as set out in the Service Deliverables - Contract with the Victim Services Division (RCMP) and Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
- Remain up to date and familiar with Policies and Procedures involving job position and RCMP VS unit.
- Assist with office duties as required.
- Refer where possible to relevant Victim Services Programs, such as Community Based Victim Services, or Child and Youth Advocacy Centers when working with certain types of trauma.

**Education**:

- University Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience in the field of social sciences including sociology, psychology, criminology, or a related discipline. Introduction to Trauma-Informed practice preferred as well as any additional training and experience in crisis intervention.

**Other requirements**:

- Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance
- Must possess a valid class 5 BC driver’s license, in good standing.

- Ability to work collaboratively between Cowichan Women Against Violence Society and the RCMP to deliver the best support possible.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Working knowledge of the Court Justice system and Police procedures as it relates to victims/witnesses served with in the unit.
- Knowledge and understanding of victim’s rights and the services available to Victims of Crime and other traumas.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Exceptional communication skills in dealing with RCMP, community service partners, Crown Counsel, and the public.
- Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Sound knowledge of available community resources
- Ability to handle emotional situations with an unbiased and non-judgemental approach.
- Self-regulation and ability to work with others in moments of trauma.
