We have an exciting opportunity for individuals to join VCS as teacher assistants in the high school division. We have the privilege of teaching and shaping our students through every interaction within and outside our classrooms. As staff, we love to nurture the potential we see in every child and to share God’s love through our actions and words.

**Teacher assistants usually require the following**:
Completion of secondary school education

Completion of a 10 month college program in teaching assistance, educational assistance or office administration experience

**Skill sets to have and continue to develop**:
Active listening skills

Social perceptiveness, diplomacy and tact

Critical-thinking skills

Monitoring small groups of students and coordination of events

Communication skills—written and verbal

Good judgement and ability to make decisions

Good time management

Installation and repairing

**Teacher assistant job description (not limited to)**:
Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting as needed by the classroom teacher

Help students individually or in small groups with assignments and reinforce learning as needed by the classroom teachers

Accompany and supervise students during activities in school gymnasiums, laboratories, libraries, resource centres and on field trips as needed by the principal and teachers

May assist teacher in set up and operation of audio-visual or electronic equipment

May assist teacher in equipment set up and take down

May monitor students during lunch hour for homework club or after-school care

May assist with duties assigned by school principal or TA supervisor

May assist with photocopying, shredding, organizing of files as needed by classroom teachers

May assist with marking quizzes or exams (short answers, multiple choice, true-false)

Maintains bulletin boards that are assigned to the high school wing

May move furniture or items as needed by classroom teachers

May assist with duties in the science department (laboratory preparation and cleaning)

May assist with duties in the athletic department (bulletin boards, newsletters, cleaning)

May assist with picking up items for high school, such as gift cards or groceries

May assist with formatting forms as needed by teachers

May assist with inventory for a particular department

May assist with set up, cooking and clean up of special events

May assist with laminating items for teachers
