We are actively seeking an experienced Operations/Projects Sponsor to join our team for the SK Thermal Division reporting to the Operations Superintendent. The Operations/Projects Sponsor primary responsibilities will be to support the coordination of_ project execution and coordinate the commissioning activities of development and MOC projects. The result will be a successful startup and turnover to the Operations team._ This role will be involved heavily with project design changes and scope development and is responsible to communicate awareness of these changes to Operations. This role will identify the requirements for equipment tie ins to ensure zero energy is being met during the construction phase. This includes the development of lock out/tag out packages in compliance with Strathcona governance documents. This role will also be accountable to ensure the ready for operations activities are completed prior to project start up, this includes operating procedures, training requirements for new equipment and maintenance procedures for new equipment.
- Safety and Environmental_- Ensure compliance with regulatory policies.- Ensure compliance with, and commitment to, Strathcona’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and regulatory policies, and practices.- Report any substandard condition or activity.- Demonstrate required housekeeping behaviors.- Act as a Leader in promoting a strong safety culture through proactive reporting, site hazard assessments, lockout procedures, tailgate meetings, etc.- Participate in loss control tours, safety meetings.- Ensure safety of personnel and equipment while being environmentally conscious.- Due to enhanced operating knowledge, take independent action to address any substandard condition or activity and communicate to team members lessons learned.- Creation of new site-specific procedures.- Identify, create and facilitate training of new projects (MOC).- Available for facility troubleshooting support.- Perform Risk Assessments.
- Technical_- Maintains a clear line of communication between Operations and Engineering ensuring project work is scheduled and completed efficiently and safely.- Work directly with operations and maintenance staff to assist in prioritizing Project work and ensuring potential concurrent/opportune work is identified.- Attend technical design/model reviews and Hazard Assessments (HAZOPs, PHAs, What-ifs) and manage relevant action items.- Work with Operations, Maintenance, and third parties to schedule, plan, and communicate the activities required for construction/pre-commissioning/commissioning activities.- Provide Operations inputs into scoping, reviewing, and execution of Facilities projects.- Support Construction Site Supervisor and contractors to execute their work, this includes permitting, hazard analysis, and review of critical tasks.- Ensures Ready for operations activities are completed for each project.- Accountable for operations planning for project work. This includes zero energy development, single isolation block valve review and sign off, permit review/task analysis development, and safety bypass approvals.- Responsible for Shutdown/Commissioning/Start Up planning and coordination of Operations.- Involved in PSSR activities.- Development of commissioning start up procedures.- Review and update operating procedures.- Support reporting and investigation of commissioning related incidents- Participate in project lesson learned activities.

- Operational knowledge and proven skill of the site- Knowledge and competent with Safety and Emergency Response procedures- Demonstrate basic computer skills- Troubleshooting Skills- Maintain and promote professional and positive attitude while being solution orientated.- Establish and maintain respectful and supportive working relationships with team members and with colleagues in other teams.- Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
- Possess a Second-Class or Third-Class Power Engineering Certificate- Minimum 7+ years of related industry experience with steam generation in the Oil and Gas industry (SAGD or CSS)- Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (a driver’s abstract is required)- Ability to perform all plant tasks, troubleshoot and remedy all upsets.- Extensive working knowledge of SAGD well pair operation, well servicing,
