As our Occupational Health and Safety Manager, you will drive awareness and provide world-class safety advisory services to all of our business units. You will be in constant pursuit of safety excellence and support all areas of the company to maintain the highest levels of safety. In year 1, you will:
Lead our Safety Strategy to build and strengthen safety capacity and further embed our Human and Organizational Performance principles
Drive forward our Ergonomics Program and continue to innovate and provide programs aimed at preventing Musculoskeletal Injuries
Foster strong safety leadership therough oversight of all of our training and education in this space
Build a robust and dynamic internal Advisory Service that makes a positive and tangible impact on our organizational safety performance
Mentor and coach our frontline safety leaders through training and educational activities
Support our Event Learning programs and initiatives
Support safety programs and initiatives in support of our high-risk strategy.
Lead and support evaluation, measurement and monitoring activities that provide a feedback loop on our safety capacity and safety management system.
Partner with key stakeholders to contribute to continually contribute to creating a Culture of belonging In year 2, you will:
Contribute to our safety management system evaluation and gap analysis against the best practice (COR, ISO 45001)
Obtain external recognition for the Safety Capacity strategy implementation
Partnering for progress with both internal and external stakeholders
Evaluate our Safety Leadership in Action Program What it takes:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or Industrial Engineering (Safety) or a related discipline from a recognized program plus 8 to 12 years related experience, including leadership experience within an unionized environment and/or utility industry, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Be a strategic thinker and adepth at executing plans
Bring a strong work ethic and an ability to motivate teams
A leader who not only understands the benefits of inclusion and diversity, but embraces this in their team and creates psychological safety amongst team members
Technically sound in safety knowledge and best practices
A strong leader of people and programs; team oriented
Compliance experience, including experience working with regulators such as WorkSafeBC
Understanding of human factors/human and organizational performance
Highly organized and efficient time manager
Coaching, mentoring and motivating others around you
Solid communicator - written and oral
Knowledge and understanding of “Safety Differently” and the “New View of Safety”
Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations based on factual conclusions
Knowledge of the utility sector, generation through to transmission and distribution
Canadian Registered Safety Practitioner (CRSP) or equivalent
