**JOB SUMMARY**:
Under the direction of the Cleaning Services Supervisor or delegate, the Janitor cleans designated library buildings and grounds. The position involves independent unsupervised time and may involve shift work.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Clean and wax hard floor coverings and vacuum and clean carpets and rugs.
2. Wash windows (external and internal), wood trim, sashes and baseboards.
3. Dry dust and wet dust shelves, tables, blinds and other furniture and fixtures.
4. Clean washrooms and replenish supplies and to empty waste receptacles.
5. Replace light bulbs and tubes as required.
6. Water and mow lawns, rake leaves, pick up debris and shovel snow from walks.
7. Monitor boilers for safe operation as required.
8. Advise Cleaning Services Supervisor or delegate on items in possible need of replacement or repair.
9. May be required to work at other RPL branches.
10. Perform related duties.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. Grade Nine graduation or its equivalent.
2. Possession of a Fireman’s Certificate and a Class 5 Driver’s License.
3. Physical capacities equal to the demands of the job.
4. Ability to follow instructions, to work responsibly and co-operatively and to maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
