**The Opportunity**:
The TFSS is currently looking for a part-time Optician to join our Gift of Sight and Sound program to work in a school-based optometry clinic in collaboration with the optometry team, and reports directly to the Program Manager.

This is a contract position from October to June and may be renewed on an annual basis. The normal hours of work will be on Wednesday and one other day for dispensing, working 6 to 12 hours per week. The hours of work may increase as the team grows larger. The Optician is responsible for the following tasks:
**Optometry Clinic Preparation**
- Verifies the OHIP status
- Document, and report OHIP verification status to the Vision and Hearing Clinic Supervisor
- Ensure all optometry equipment are accounted for and in good working condition and all optical and clinic supplies are complete

**Optometry Clinic Day**
- Assist in the preparation of the optometry clinic and equipment set-up
- Assist the Optometrists and perform the initial pretesting and autorefraction, checks prescription eyewear of students using the lensometer, and administer eye drops to patients when required
- Verify health card information onsite to ensure OHIP cards of participating students are valid
- Assist students who require glasses with the frame selection and take pupillary distance measurements
- Ensure that correct prescriptions, frame model descriptions and eye measurements for each student are recorded properly
- Place systematic online job orders for prescription glasses for students in attendance

**Dispensing Clinic Preparation**
- Confirm receipt job orders from our partner
- Verify and check all prescription glasses received based on the prescription issued by the optometrists using the lensometer
- Collaborate with Vision and Hearing Clinic Supervisor in the preparation of the schedule for the dispensing of glasses
- Organize a route plan to scheduled schools to optimize the travel time

**Dispensing Clinic Day**
- Adhere to provincial regulations for dispensing glasses
- Liaise with the school designate to ensure that all students on the list for receiving glasses attend the dispensing clinic
- Help fit eyeglasses on students and adjust the eyewear accordingly
- Ensure feedback notes for parents and other administrative materials are handed over to school administrators at the end of the glasses dispensing
- Travel to schools across the city is required

**Other Duties**
- Compliance with TFSS and TDSB policies and procedures
- Maintain updated provincial licensing requirements for Opticians
- Maintain accurate inventory of optometry equipment, sample frames and optical supplies
- Document and keep track of all job orders
- Performs all other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Licensed Optician in Ontario
- Demonstrate efficient and effective organizational ability
- Superior skills in Microsoft Excel and Access software and data management
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with children and with ethnically diverse communities
- Second Language is an asset
