**Laboratory Technician (Microbiology)**

Perennia’s mission is supporting growth, transformation and economic development in Nova Scotia’s agriculture, seafood, and food and beverage sectors. We are looking for a talented, innovative professional with an understanding and expertise in Microbiology.

The technician will be responsible for performing preparatory work, and analysis of samples and assuring quality standards within the laboratory environment. The **Laboratory Technician (Microbiology) **will help with experiments and microbial testing of plants, food and seafood-related products. This position requires a self-starter with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a high personal standard of excellence.

**Principal Responsibilities**:

- Prepare samples, media and buffers used for daily analysis and maintain inventories as needed for daily microbiological testing
- Perform microbiological testing in a timely manner and in accordance with SOPs and study requirements
- Maintain inventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirement
- Provide routine preventive maintenance and daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal
- Perform quality control monitoring by tracking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc.
- Perform all activities in an organized, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner and adhere to internal SOPs and quality programs
- Communicate information within the team in an open and timely manner
- BSc. or Diploma in Microbiology or related science with at least one year of research or industrial experience.
- Experience in aseptic techniques is an asset.
- Experience in a microbiology testing environment is an asset.
- Ability to work independently.
- High level of organization and ability to work on multiple projects with multiple deadlines.
- Ability to accommodate flexible working hours (evenings, weekends).
- Ability to lift to 40 lb occasionally.
