**About us**

Matrix Heritage is a new an innovative consulting firm providing a range of heritage and archaeological services on land and underwater.

Matrix Heritage's cultural heritage specialists offer a range of services in heritage conservation and historical research, data management, and writing.

From working on various projects in Ontario and nationally on federal, provincial, private, and Indigenous lands, Matrix's staff have a broad portfolio of experience in researching and writing screening reports, heritage evaluations and heritage impact assessments. Matrix's heritage team members bring a national reputation in public history, heritage evaluations, historical research, Indigenous studies, writing and policy development.

We work closely with practitioners in other fields, including architecture, engineering, GIS, information science, linguistics, and graphic design, to ensue we deliver comprehensive, detailed, in-depth analyses targeted to their intended audiences in a cost and time efficient manner.

**Roles and Responsibilities**:

- **Historical Research**: Conduct in-depth research on historical sites, buildings, and structures, both online and in-person archival investigations.
- **Data Analysis**: Analyze historical data and primary documents to extract valuable insights and provide context for heritage projects.
- **Documentation**: Create comprehensive reports and documentation of historical research findings to support heritage.
- **Online Research**: Utilize online resources and databases to access historical information, maps, and records relevant to projects.
- **Archival Research**: Visit archives and libraries to gather historical documents, photographs, and other materials essential for research.
- **Site Visits**: Carry out site visits for Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports, Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports, Heritage Impact Assessments, Cultural Heritage Landscape studies, Heritage Conservation Districts, etc.
- **Project Collaboration**: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, archaeologists, and conservationists, to integrate historical insights into project planning and execution.
- **Continuous Learning**: Stay updated with current trends and practices in historical research and built-heritage conservation.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Completed MA in History or equivalent experience in historical research.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in archival research and data collection, report design, and production.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A passion for heritage conservation and the preservation of historical sites.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

**Terms of Employment**

**Salary**: Hourly, based upon experience

Location: Ottawa and area

Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English
