Every project you touch whether repairing a palisade wall or preparing a site for a major event helps connect Ontarians and visitors to the stories that shape our province.
The Nancy Island Historic Site located in Wasaga Beach is a nationally significant location commemorating the War of 1812 and the heroic battle of HMS Nancy. This site offers immersive historical experiences, including costumed interpreters, hands-on demonstrations, and a replica 19th-century lighthouse with stunning views of Wasaga Beach.
**Please note**: Ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call as required for special events and emergencies- **About the job**: In this role you will- help care for Ontario's heritage sites by fixing and building wooden structures like docks, roofs, fences, and furniture.
- use your carpentry skills to make sure buildings and visitor areas are strong, safe, and true to history.
- complete a mix of maintenance work, such as painting, simple plumbing, masonry, and equipment repairs, to keep everything in good shape.
- safely use and look after tools and vehicles like tractors, ATVs, saws, and planers.
- work with contractors, students, and team members to meet conservation standards and create spaces everyone can enjoy.
- be ready to handle urgent repairs and help during special events or emergencies.-

Mandatory requirements**:
- valid Class “G” Driver's License.
** Carpentry & construction expertise**: You can:
- know how to work with wood and use safe methods to care for historic and reproduction pieces.
- build, fix, and improve structures like docks, ramps, roofs, and furniture.
- read and follow blueprints, sketches, and plans to make sure measurements are correct.
- use and maintain carpentry tools and equipment safely.
** Compliance & safety knowledge**: You can:
- understand building rules, by-laws, and heritage standards.
- know the basics of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- make sure all work supports safety and accessibility for everyone.
** Multi-Trade maintenance skills**: You can:
- have basic skills in masonry, plumbing, welding, and simple mechanical repairs.
- keep equipment like tractors, lawn mowers, and small machines in good working order.
- help care for gardens and grounds at both modern and historic sites.
** Planning & problem-solving**: You can:
- estimate time and materials needed for projects.
- check conditions and choose the best way to make repairs.
- create simple sketches and plans for approval.
** Communication & collaboration**: You can:
- speak clearly to explain work to team members and visitors.
- write simple notes, plans, and sketches when needed.
- work well with contractors, students, and other team members.
