The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FRM) at the University of Alberta is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position for the Augustana satellite site of the MScSLP program.
**Position**
As the largest Speech-Language Pathology department in Canada, the University of Alberta MScSLP program offers students a wide variety of academic and clinical experiences supported by an extensive network of dedicated academic and clinical educators and preceptors. In the Fall of 2024, the program expanded to include a new satellite site at the UofA Augustana Campus in Camrose. The MScSLP Satellite program is one of three professional programs (including MScOT and MScPT) in the FRM that is at the Augustana campus. In Fall 2025, we will welcome the second cohort to study at Augustana.
**Duties**
Based in Camrose, Alberta, the position on offer comprises teaching and teaching-related responsibilities and service assignments. Teaching Professors are expected to participate in initiatives related to the scholarship of teaching & learning (SoTL) research, to promote scholarship initiatives, and to engage in service activities within the Department and the broader academic and clinical community. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Ensure the operational requirements of the MScSLP program are met on a day-to-day basis; intervene in a timely and prompt manner in operational and student issues that arise;
- Primary or Co-Instructor and/or Coordinator for assigned MScSLP courses;
- Student advisor for some of the Augustana MScSLP students (16 students per cohort);
- Collaborate with faculty and staff across the Edmonton and Augustana program sites, as well as with the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy programs, to ensure equitable, quality learning experiences for all students;
- Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of the MScSLP program across sites;
- Support Augustana-specific scheduling, communications, community activities and external relationships (e.g., SAC, ACSLPA, etc.);
- Support and/or coordinate clinical education activities in Camrose and Central Alberta by working with the Academic Coordinator for Clinical Education and other faculty members to cultivate community relationships and new clinical placements;
- Participate in the Department of CSD and the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine Committees as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- A Master’s, PhD/Clinical Doctorate, or equivalent and a minimum of four years of speech-language pathology experience in clinical practice and/or academic settings.
- Experience teaching in an academic setting;
- Leadership experience in clinical practice settings;
- A demonstrated history of, or commitment to, continuous quality improvement/ engagement in professional teaching development activities, ideally related to teaching and learning;
- Experience in clinical education coordination or student supervision/mentorship;
- Capability to oversee scholarly capstone projects;
- Familiarity and comfort with using distance/remote learning technology, or comfort with technology and commitment to learning the remote teaching technology in place;
- Strong organization and time management skills;
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including conflict management skills.
**Additional Information**:
Registration with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) is required by the start date.
