**Kitchen Assistant**

**Job Summary**:
Assist with the day to day operations of the Lunch by George kitchen.

**Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the construction of menus taking full advantage of donated food and supplies.
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards.
- Ensure an adequate supply of goods to support take out service (bags, takeout containers, etc.)
- Help with preparation of nutritious meals for the day, including preparation of a daily salad, chopping of veggies, etc.)
- Assist with the organization of fridge/freezers, pantry and cupboards. Rotate food in freezers. Ensue temperature of freezers is in accordance with public health regulations.
- Hand out “Where to Turn” pamphlets as needed.
- Assist in plating/packaging of meals.
- Ensure appropriate daily clean-up of kitchen and removal of garbage. Ensure kitchen is kept clean and up to public health recommendations.
- Periodically clean stoves and ovens as needed.
- Remove garbage daily.
- Pick up food from various agencies or purchase as directed.
- Accept and organize clothing donations. Hand out various necessities (socks, hats, toiletries, etc.) as needed.
- Other duties as required.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Experience preparing meals for large groups.
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices.
- Acceptable Criminal Records check (CPIC)

**Skills, Abilities, Special Physical Demands**
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Multitasking ability under periodic stressful conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and change menus depending on influx of donated foods.
- Good physical condition to work in busy kitchen.

Hourly paid position - part time - 4-5 hours daily.

Supervised by Food Director/General Manager, Lunch by George.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- Morning shift

**Experience**:

- Cooking: 3 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (required)
