This position is ideally based in our Edmonton, AB office where our Director, Internal Audit is located, but can be equally successful operating out of any of Bird’s other offices across Canada.
**Responsibilities**:
Internal Audit Responsibilities- Assist in conducting a company-wide risk assessment to develop an annual audit plan.- With the support of the Director, Internal Audit, lead and conduct reporting on internal audits in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter and the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).- Report and discuss results of internal audits with management.- Design recommendations that are pragmatic but still mitigate the existing risks.- Follow up on issues from previous internal audits, determining the status of recommendations, reporting as such and reassessing risk as necessary.-
- Develop and maintain positive, sustainable internal client relationships.
Internal Control Project Responsibilities-
- Perform ongoing assessment of the design and operational effectiveness of the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting as well as IT and Application controls and Disclosure Controls and Procedures.- Analyze and report and document the results of the assessment of design and operational effectiveness.- Identify opportunities to improve the internal controls throughout the company and assist management to develop an action plan to reduce the number of deficiencies identified through the CSOX program.
What We Are Looking For- Undergraduate Degree or Business Diploma with an accounting concentration- 3+ years of experience in an auditing position- Experience in construction industry or project-driven operating environments (asset)- Recognized Canadian professional accounting designation or Certified Internal Auditor Designation would be an asset- Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment- Experience with design and evaluation of internal controls under COSO framework- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills; thoughtful, proactive and creative- Demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving goals- Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups- Strong written and oral communication skills
