Highview Residences is a very special home for people with dementia. This secure home is purpose-built with a unique design that is just like your home only bigger: private bedroom and bathroom, small dining room, walking gardens and truly person-centred care.
**Primary Responsibilities**
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Identifying and assessing the residents’ needs to develop fulfilling activities, in collaboration with the Activation Coordinator
- Attend all Highview training and associate meetings
- Assist to implement and facilitate scheduled and spontaneous activities
- Maintain appropriate resident attendance, and evaluations of planned programs
- Work co-operatively and communicate effectively with the Activation Coordinator, Nursing Coordinator, General Manager, Director of Care, other associates, volunteers, and resident's family
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, similar/related University degree completed or in progress
- A minimum of 1 year experience working with the population served
- Be an energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly, possessing excellent problem solving, planning and creative abilities
- Must be available to work weekends
- An understanding of the needs and realities of the elderly, including matters of mobility and communication, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementia
- Have a current vulnerable persons check
- Experience planning and facilitating group recreational programs is preferred
- GPA and / or PIECES certification would be a significant asset
