For 80+ years, Kawartha Dairy has been proud to be a 100% Canadian-owned company, still operated by the same family that founded it in 1937. Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it remains headquartered in the lakeside community of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, where it was founded, near Peterborough, an hour north of the GTA.

Today Kawartha Dairy operates 10 retail stores and services a wide range of customers, from grocery stores to foodservice establishments and of course, ice cream parlours. The company also provides custom production services to other food companies, using Kawartha’s expertise in the business to produce ice cream and other specialty dairy items to the exact specifications of these firms.

Reflecting the explosive growth in the brand and the business as a whole, Kawartha Dairy has recently constructed a 54,000-square-foot Distribution Centre just south of Bobcaygeon to serve its provincial operations. Investments are also underway to modernize the production plant, our systems and our infrastructure.

As an Operations Manager, Packaging on one of our two shifts you are responsible for the safe, effective and efficient operation of our equipment and the strict adherence to our processes, procedures and systems to ensure that we always maintain maximum productivity while never, ever compromising our quality.

**What You’ll Do**:

- Lead the production filling and packaging team in the delivery of ice cream and milk products to meet the production plan.
- Development and Implementation of process improvements in efficiency and waste reduction.
- Use Kaisan and Lean Principal Tools to develop and enhance current production methodologies
- Develop staff and operators into cohesive multi skilled team.
- Responsible for finished goods packaging through effective planning of people, materials and machines.
- Responsible to maintain Food Safety and our excellent SQF annual audit results.
- Enhance and maintain a performance driven culture for the entire plant
- Own the people, equipment and process scheduling for efficiency and effectiveness
- Promote a safe work environment and support the company health and safety policy
- Communicate and support the goals and mission of the facility and Kawartha Dairy
- Ensure the appropriate standard operating procedures are developed and maintained in all areas of the dairy plant
- Maintain effective communication between shifts and other departments
- Deliver against key financial and operational targets in the areas of production attainment, labour costs, safety, waste, and efficiency
- Support a first class preventative maintenance program
- Participation and shared ownership in new product development
- Participate in the objective setting, plan development and performance review of key performance indicators and people performance.
- Responsible for working in collaboration with the Maintenance and Reliability Manager to identify and prioritize machine performance improvements.
- Provide compliance oversight of quality policies and procedures including the HACCP program
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure supply of raw materials and packaging.
- Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations.
- Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the Production department
- Provide training to ensure all staff are adequately trained in procedures
- Provide annual performance evaluations (KDP’s) for the Supervisors and also add key input on all production staff ratings

**What You Need to Get the Job Done**:

- An excellent coach, mentor, teacher, and communicator who cherishes the experience of managing and working with some amazing people.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Operations or Plant Manager in a complex CPG manufacturing operation.
- Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- Consideration given to a technical post secondary degree with extensive experience in managing a food manufacturing plant.
- Must have strong management experience with a major manufacturing organization managing a production department, including supervisory experience in processing/packaging operations in the food industr
