**Expand Access to Inclusive Respite Services Across Nova Scotia**
Are you passionate about helping families access the support they need? Autism Nova Scotia is seeking a Respite Support Coordinator to lead and coordinate respite programming in the Central Region of the province.
In this key role, you’ll provide guidance to families and caregivers, connect them with trusted respite providers, and help shape a more accessible and responsive respite network. You'll also collaborate with partners across sectors and play a vital role in education, outreach, and system navigation.
**About the Role**
As the Respite Support Coordinator, you will be responsible for onboarding, supporting, and connecting families and respite providers through Autism Nova Scotia’s provincial respite platform. You’ll lead community sessions, foster partnerships, and offer individualized navigation support — all while ensuring services are inclusive, family-centered, and community-informed.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Program Coordination & Support**
- Onboard families and respite seekers into the provincial respite database; provide tech support as needed
- Interview and screen new respite providers, supporting them through onboarding
- Match families with appropriate respite providers based on availability and care needs
- Provide information and navigation support for internal and external respite programs
**Community Engagement & Education**
- Facilitate monthly onboarding and information sessions for families, providers, and community members
- Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations and service providers
- Prepare educational tools, presentations, and resources for diverse audiences
- Participate in provincial Respite Partnership meetings and collaborate with other coordinators
**Program Maintenance & Development**
- Support updates and maintenance of the online respite database in collaboration with developers
- Maintain accurate records and reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Lead development of new training materials and tools for respite providers and families
- Assist with event planning and community initiatives
**Administrative & Reporting**
- Support internal tracking and annual review processes
- Ensure all activity aligns with Autism Nova Scotia’s standards, values, and privacy policies

**Qualifications**
**Education & Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 1-3 years supporting individuals with autism and/or disabilities
- Experience working with individuals with mental health needs considered an asset
**Skills & Competencies**
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of autism and evidence-based supports
- Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and critical thinking
- Experience with program coordination and evaluation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel; experience with Teams and Zoom an asset
**Certifications & Requirements**
- Clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry Check
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (or willingness to obtain)
- Access to reliable vehicle and valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License
**Working Conditions**
- Combination of in-office, remote, and community-based work
- Frequent local travel required for meetings, events, and family support
- Flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends
- Participation in outreach events in varied settings (schools, workplaces, community centers)
- Use of personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursed per policy
