The Real Estate Development Department aims to create vibrant places and communities that embody Squamish values. The Director of Community Development will contribute to fostering long-term economic prosperity for the Nation and its members.

**About the Squamish Nation**:
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh are descendants of the original Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-speaking villages located throughout the watersheds of the Squamish River, Mamquam River, Howe Sound, English Bay, False Creek, and Burrard Inlet. With over 4,100 members, the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw is one of the largest First Nations in British Columbia, experiencing growth, ambition, and opportunity.

**Scope of the Position**

The Director of Community Development provides strategic leadership and vision for Nch’kaỷ initiatives, with a critical focus on upholding Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Values within community and economic development projects. This role drives the development and implementation of strategic plans, builds organizational capacity for service delivery, and ensures transparent communication of development progress, all while upholding the Nation’s and Nch’ḵay’s vision, governance, and operational principles. The Director is a strategic thinker, an influential communicator, and a proactive leader who drives organizational value through innovative strategies and impactful outcomes.

Reporting to the VP of Real Estate & Development, the Director fosters strong collaborative relationships with the senior leadership team and Council, strategically engaging high-level partnerships to define overarching goals, establish strategic priorities, and ensure the achievement of the Nation’s and Nch’ḵay’s long-term development objectives.

**Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities**

**Strategic Leadership & Vision**

Develop and articulate a comprehensive long-term vision and strategic direction for community and economic development initiatives, aligning with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation Values and Nch’kaỷ’s overall goals.

**Guidelines Development**

Lead the development and implementation of overarching guidelines, policies, strategic frameworks, and long-term plans to guide comprehensive community and economic development.

**High-Level Stakeholder Engagement**

Strategically engage and build strong relationships with key internal partnerships (Council, Executive, Directors) and external partners (government agencies, developers, community organizations) to advance development objectives.

**Oversight of Implementation & Performance**

Provide strategic oversight and direction for the implementation of development plans and monitor key performance indicators to ensure progress towards strategic goals.

**Risk Management & Strategic Decision-Making**

Identify and assess strategic risks related to community and economic development and make high-level decisions to mitigate these risks and ensure successful outcomes.

**Resource Allocation & Strategic Partnerships**

Strategically allocate resources and cultivate key partnerships to support the Nation’s community and economic development priorities and long-term goals.

**Cultural Integration & Community Alignment**

Ensure all community development and business initiatives deeply integrate the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation’s cultural values, traditions, and community needs, fostering community support and engagement.

**Advocacy & External Representation**

Represent the Nch’kaỷ at a senior level in discussions and negotiations related to community benefit and development opportunities.

**Team Leadership & Development**

Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and guidance to relevant teams, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment focused on achieving strategic objectives.

**Financial Oversight & Accountability**

Oversee the financial aspects of community development initiatives, ensuring responsible management of budgets, reports, and resources.

**Other**

Perform other duties as required.

**Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor**

Reports to the Vice President of Real Estate & Development.

- Proven leader and relationship builder with a strong commitment to delivery. This individual demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities, effectively managing teams and fostering strong relationships across various sectors. Their experience is particularly notable within Indigenous organizations, where they have shown a deep understanding and respect for cultural values and traditions.
