**Refrigeration Technician**

**About the Role**

TMSI Ltd. is seeking a hands-on Refrigeration Technician to service, maintain, and repair refrigerated shipping containers (“reefers”) across our Halifax operations. You’ll perform PTIs, diagnostics, and corrective maintenance on leading makes (Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin, StarCool) in a fast-paced yard and port environment, including on-vessel calls.

**What You’ll Do**
- Perform **Pre-Trip Inspections (PTIs)**, commissioning, and decommissioning of reefer units.
- Diagnose and repair **mechanical, electrical (AC three-phase), and control** issues using OEM software/tools and data downloads.
- Recover, evacuate, charge, and leak-test refrigerants in compliance with Canadian regulations and company SOPs.
- Execute planned maintenance (belts, filters, sensors, valves, heaters, door hardware) and corrective repairs (compressors, fan motors, TXVs, controller boards).
- Complete service records, parts usage, and condition reports accurately in the maintenance system.
- Support **emergency call-outs** for vessel schedules, weekends, and after hours as part of a rotation.
- Work safely in yard and terminal environments, coordinating with operations, vessel crews, and third-party vendors.
- Maintain company tools, ensure calibration/asset control, and uphold housekeeping standards.

**What You Bring**
- **Refrigeration & Air Conditioning trade qualification** (e.g., Red Seal or provincial equivalent) **or** strong industry experience with transport/marine reefers.
- **Refrigerant Handling Certification (Canada)** and current **WHMIS**; valid **Class 5** driver’s licence with clean abstract.
- Proven experience on **Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin, or StarCool** container units (MicroLink, MPX, DM, CIM, etc.).
- Solid understanding of **480/460V & 230V three-phase**, control circuits, and safe electrical troubleshooting.
- Able to read electrical schematics, service manuals, and use OEM diagnostic software/data loggers.
- Physically able to lift 25-30 kg, work at heights, climb ladders, and operate in all weather conditions.
- Strong safety mindset (LOTO, confined space/working at heights awareness), clear communication, and teamwork.

**Nice-to-Haves**
- Marine/port experience; **MTSC** (Marine Transportation Security Clearance) eligibility.
- Forklift, aerial lift, fall-protection, first-aid certifications.
- Experience with CMMS or yard/terminal work order systems.

**Schedule & Work Environment**
- Day, evening, or night shifts depending on vessel windows; **on-call rotation** for ship calls and urgent repairs.
- Work is primarily outdoors in a **port/terminal yard** and occasionally **on-vessel**.
