The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) will be a key member of the Quest multidisciplinary team. The OTA will practice under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist to service residents at all of our Quest sites.
**JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Engages residents through the use of therapeutic and self-care activities designed to improve function, community engagement, life skills and activities of daily living under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.
- Observes, monitors and reports on residents' occupational performance and participation in programs.
- Supports collaboration among residents, staff and the multidisciplinary team.
- Oversees residents' rehabilitative progress and provides support and encouragement.
- Thoroughly documents resident and staff progress with all programs in appropriate records.
- Delivers staff educational sessions and provides 1-1 support for staff to ensure they understand equipment and programming requirements.
- Demonstrates effective problem solving related to assigned programming.
- Utilizes therapeutic communication strategies and facilitates effective verbal and nonverbal communication.
- Maintains equipment inventory and completes regular equipment checks for safety purposes (e.g. slings).
- Demonstrates an understanding of evidence-based practice and supports an evidence-based approach in service delivery.
**PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT**:
- Critically examines own performance to identify areas of growth and development.
- Enhances self-development on a continuing basis by setting goals, attending educational programs and reviewing professional literature.
- Demonstrates independent practice by taking initiative, being self-directed and using time effectively.
- Seeks clarification in situations that exceed scope of experience and knowledge or area of responsibility and accountability.
- Performs other related duties as required.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Completion of a recognized Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
- Previous experience in mental health considered a strong asset
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team player.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to oversee staff performance in relation to occupational and recreational programming
- Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel within the Halifax Regional Municipality
**WORKING HOURS**:
Quest provides around-the-clock support to our residents; therefore, the OTA may be required to provide staff support, run programs or educational events at varying hours.
**SALARY**:
21.1886 - 24.8030/ hour
