Job description

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- General repairs in guest rooms; minor repairs in electrical, HVAC, and plumbing
- Minor carpentry, such as: patching holes in walls and vinyl.
- Repairs to office equipment.
- Maintenance of swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna.
- Demonstrates familiarity with the hotels life safety systems and takes corrective action on any maintenance or operating issues which affect the security of the hotel
- Service maintenance requests from guests and associates in a friendly and professional manner
- Complies with all provincial and federal regulations pertaining to building and fire code requirements, health and life safety programs
- Completes duties such as light bulb replacement, painting, dry wall repair
- Completes utility readings and consumptions
- Ensure the security of keys, company information, guest information and guest rooms at all times
- Report unsafe work conditions, areas requiring repair or suspicious person to the Department Head
- Understand and practice the correct usage and storage of chemicals in line with health and safety regulations and manufacturers’ instructions
- Utilizes personal protective equipment such as gloves and biohazard disposal containers when required
- Enter guest rooms following procedures for gaining access and ensuring vacancy before entering
- Be aware of the action to be taken in the event of an emergency such as fire in accordance with procedures
- Committed to providing exceptional customer service
- Follows through on guest requests and takes action immediately
- Treat each individual with respect and fosters a cooperative, productive, positive and respectful work place
- Work and communicate in a professional and ethical manner; assist coworkers where necessary
- Actively sell any special promotions, the brand, and facilities available to the guest in order to contribute to overall profitability
- Provide information to guests about local attractions, hotel services, hotel facilities and other amenities
- Assist with team member orientation and training as required
- Maintain standards of punctuality, uniform presentation and personal hygiene
- Attend meetings as required and recognize the importance of contributing new ideas and initiative to the overall success of the operation
- Contribute to cost control through energy conservation and correct usage and storage of all materials/equipment
- Communicate effectively with the Housekeeping and Front Desk department regarding ready rooms and those required to be out of order
- Provides a favorable image of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts and the Brand to the public by consistently demonstrating SilverBirch Values (Engagement, Quality, Performance, Integrity and Growth)
- Other related duties and projects as assigned

**Preferred Education & Qualifications**:

- 1 years previous maintenance experience is required
- Have either electrical, plumbing, building systems, carpentry or HVAC knowledge. Valid ticket is an asset
- WHMIS training is an asset but can be provided by the hotel
- Previous experience in an environment with a strong health and safety program is an asset

**Working Conditions**:

- Physically fit and able to push, pull, and lift up to 30 lbs. and to bend and kneel with comfort
- Fast paced environment that is often demanding
- Stand, walk and remain on feet to perform job duties for shift duration
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling and stooping
- Hours and shifts will vary according to occupancy & the needs of the department. May involve working weekends, statutory holidays and evenings as required

- Excellent guest service; highly organized, can multi-task and meet deadlines
- Works well under pressure and without supervision; able to perform well in a fast-paced environment
- Energetic, honest, self-motivated and flexible; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, punctual and dependable; strong teamwork skills

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $19.89-$20.89 per hour
