**Location**: Seymour, Capilano, or Coquitlam Watersheds and the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve
**Salary Range/ Wage Rate**: $34.73 hourly

**Our Water Services Department is seeking a Watershed Protection Patroller who will enjoy working in a remote, wilderness type environment and take pride in being a part of a team that is responsible for protecting the regions drinking water.**

**You are: Passionate about protecting the environment and water resources, experienced in security/environmental protection, have a high degree of accuracy and detail oriented, are comfortable working independently in remote/wilderness locations, and strive to be part of a dynamic team.**

**This role**: _(The duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all inclusive.)_
- Patrols GVWD lands, relying on a variety of travel modes (i.e. vehicle, foot, bike, boat, and helicopter when required).
- Performs Watershed Orientations and ensures that all individuals entering or working on GVWD lands have a valid watershed entry permit and are complying with Watershed Regulations. Escorts those on approved watershed business that do not have the required entry permit.
- Responds to watershed protection incidents (such as trespasses, GVWD infrastructure vandalism, Search and Rescue).
- Maintains records, daily operational logs, and submits daily reports as required. Assists the Watershed Protection Coordinator in the production of watershed incident reports as required.
- Installs, maintains, and operates video surveillance equipment at appropriate locations and is responsible for the daily operation of the electronic entrance gate and video surveillance equipment where such equipment is installed at work locations.
- Checks and repairs perimeter fences. Installs and replaces signage as required.
- Participates in emergency response, including forest fire fighting, petroleum spill clean-up, road patrols and emergency remedial works. Takes water samples as required.
- Moves and services toilets when required. May perform the duties of the Watershed Sanitation Worker when required.
- Ensures all Metro Vancouver and WSBC policies, regulations and legislation are followed.
- Maintains office and perimeter grounds.
- Performs standby for watershed activities, as required.

**To be successful, you have**:

- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent. Post-secondary courses in Security or Environmental Protection would be considered an asset.
- Experience in security or environmental protection and related systems with at least two (2) years of relevant experience.
- Possess a Basic Security Training (BST) certification or able to obtain such certification in short order.
- Capable of walking long distances over rough terrain for extended periods of time over a variety of weather conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing; ability to respond calmly, tactfully, and efficiently in an emergency, difficult, or potentially volatile situation.
- Proven ability to work with mínimal supervision and effectively work alone.
- Valid BC driver’s license. Ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles in extreme weather conditions.
- Boat operations experience and certifications would be an asset.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and be available for standby duties as required.
