POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Director, Operational Risk Management, to lead and oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of BDC’s Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF). They will be responsible to manage and optimize ORM Programs in alignment with regulatory, industry and risk management best practices. They will oversee the first Line of Defense (1LOD) in the management of operational risk and take on a leadership role in the enhancement of BDC’s risk culture at all levels of the organization through training, awareness, and reporting initiatives.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET- Lead the design and enhancement ORMF programs including but not limited to: Third Party Risk Management, Corporate Insurance and Business Continuity Management- Build and enhance ORMF governance documentation, tools, methodologies, and risk-based approaches in line with industry best practice and commensurate with BDC risks and maturity levels- Provide leadership to Business Lines and Corporate Functions in their execution of ORM deliverables ensuring their accountability in risk management practices- Manage and oversee ORM reporting, including metrics and assessments to evaluate risk profile and performance against risk appetite, for ORM Committee, Risk Management Committee, and the Board. Accountability includes presenting results, continuous enhancement, efficiency, and effectiveness while ensuring that the reporting process meets all controls and governance requirements- Build risk management convergence across the three lines of defense using a collaborative approach while building and fostering relationships- Facilitate the establishment of an effective risk culture through the deployment of ORM programs, communication, training, and onboarding of 1LOD and 2LOD stakeholders and leaders- Develop strategic plans and roadmaps for the ORM Framework and the implementation, execution, and maturity enhancement of ORM Programs- Assess risks identified in the annual Business Unit Plan process and work with Business Unit Heads to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies including top and emerging risk prioritization- Work with the 1LOD in the design and implementation of a 1B function or 1B expertise- Prepare reports for senior management and the Board on operational risk exposures, mitigation strategies and status of key risk indicators- Leverage in-depth knowledge regulatory and industry ORM best practices in the financial services industry and implement strategies applicable to BDC- Act as an alternate for the Assistant Vice-President, Risk Management on various committees and Crisis Incident Management responsibilities
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience within the Canadian financial services sector- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; including cross-functional collaboration ability- Ability to produce and communicate polished and crisp reports, analyses, and presentations- Excellent judgement and creative problem-solving skills; including negotiation and conflict resolution- Ability to collaborate with senior leaders and teams to drive results- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Visio)- Excellent oral and written communication skills, in both official languages (French and English)
