We are committed to delivering high quality infrastructure for the residents, businesses and visitors to Halton Region, and are looking for dedicated, forward thinking and enthusiastic individuals to join our Public Works team **Posting ID**: 3832 **Department**: Public Works **Division**: Water & Wastewater Treatment **Pay Range**: $45.24 **Job Type**: Contract < 1 Year **Contract Duration**: up to 12 months **Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week **Work Location**: Oakville Water Purification Plant, 21 Kerr Street, Oakville **Employee Group**: CUPE 2620 **Posting Date**:January 20, 2025 **Application Deadline**: January 26, 2025 **Job Summary**: Reporting to the Team Supervisors of Burlington, Burloak and Oakville Water Treatment Plants, this role is responsible for assisting and coordinating work between capital and operations to ensure feedback on capital projects include an operations lens. **Duties & Responsibilities**: - Reporting to the Team Supervisor for the facility, this role is responsible for assisting with the planning of Capital Work to its final completion. - Assists Plant Capital and Engineering Project Management staff in implementation and coordination of their Capital projects that are being implemented in an operating plant. - Compiles and maintains necessary plant records and analyses. - Ensures that all Occupational Health and Safety practices and procedures as well as internal protocols and environmental compliance requirements are followed. - Assists staff on Regional Standards, Policies and Procedures and appropriate responses to emergencies. - Provides Coordination and assistance to Team Supervisor in the daily activities of the construction and upgrade processes. Ensures live water treatment processes are not disrupted during construction without agreement and explicit instruction from operations staff. - Assist in the coordination of new equipment start-up and commissioning activities. - Attend Construction site meetings and represent Operations. - Assist in the coordination for plant shutdowns with Operations and maintenance staff. (LOTO) - Oversees external workers employed on Capital Works contracts when working on-site. - Performs operator duties as required. - Performs other duties as assigned. **Skills & Qualifications**: **Essential** - Must possess and maintain a Class IV Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) operator certification in Water Treatment. - Experience with construction projects, reviewing drawings, and attending meetings. - Thorough understanding of regulations enforced by the MECP, Ministry of Labour (MOL), Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation, TSSA, ESA and other relevant legislation related to water treatment. - A strong interpersonal skill to solve problems and work through construction challenges and operational impacts of construction, experience with complete life cycle complex capital projects, Initiation, planning, execution, pre-design, design, Process Narrative Review, construction, start up and commissioning, project closing. - Ability to clearly deliver instructions and provide appropriate feedback to Operations Team Supervisor & Operations Sub-Foreperson on Capital Activities within the facility. - An aptitude for computers is required to effectively manage validations of new assets, bill of materials within SAP. - The incumbent will be a co-operative team member who possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Familiarity with relationship between consultants, general and sub-contractors and region staff throughout the life cycle of the project. - Familiarity with SCADA system. **Working/ Employment Conditions**: **Employment Conditions** **Working Conditions** - The incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after-hour callouts, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices. - Travel will be required for on-site meetings across the South Halton Water Treatment facilities. - The ability to work in confined spaces and oversee and perform designated duties in inclement weather is also required. - In accordance with requirements in Ontario Regulation 191/11 - Integrated Accessibility Standards and the Ontario Human Rights Code, Halton Region will accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities throughout the recruitment process.
