Resident Care Aide

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Care and taking work direction from the Resident Care Coordinator/Clinical Care Coordinator, the Resident Care Aide works as a team member to carry out care functions and procedures related to the physical, spiritual and recreational needs of the resident.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides personal care according to care plan.
- Observes and reports any changes in a resident’s functional and cognitive behaviour to the LPN and / or Resident Care Coordinator/Clinical Care Coordinator.
- Participates in care conferences and care planning.
- Promotes and assists residents to participate in social, spiritual and recreational activities.
- Accommodates resident’s individual choices whenever possible.
- Encourages and supports residents to maintain or regain independence.
- Supports relationships that are central to the resident.
- Facilitates the maintenance of the resident’s personal effects according to the wishes of the resident.
- Maintains a clean, safe, homelike environment.
- Encourages and makes available healthy snacks.
- Supports the resident in adhering to special diet requirements as required by the care plan.
- Reports shortages, breakage and malfunctioning of equipment to the Resident Care Coordinator/Clinical Care Coordinator.
- Knows and adheres to fire, emergency and security policies and procedures.
- Complies with infection control policies and procedures.

**Qualifications**:
Education, Training and Experience
- Successful completion of an approved resident care/home support program.
- Food Safe certificate.
- WHMIS.
- A minimum of six months experience caring for complex care clients, including those with dementia.

- Proven ability to show respect for and to maintain the spirit, dignity, and individuality of the resident.
- Well-honed skills to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations by displaying tact, courtesy, empathy, and patience with residents, staff, families, visitors and volunteers.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize own work.
- Physical ability to perform the work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Demonstrates utilization of correct body mechanics and mechanical aids when transferring and/or repositioning residents.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as cooperatively within a team environment.
- Willingness to support and embrace a culture of change.
- **The position is temporary part time, 0.8FTE, 3pm-9:30pm at the moment, however, may lead to part-time or full-time employment.**_

**To be eligible for consideration staff must be vaccinated in accordance with the requirements of the Provincial Health Officer’s Order. Proof of Vaccination required.**
