**Position Summary**

Halalt First Nation (HFN) is seeking a full-time Referrals Analyst or Coordinator to support the Nation’s response to lands, waters, and resources-related referral requests. HFN is a small indigenous community located near Chemainus, BC, with a traditional territory encompassing mid-Vancouver Island, the Salish Sea, and the lower Fraser River area. HFN and its staff work closely with other Quw’utsun Nation communities (Cowichan Tribes, Penelakut Tribe, Lyackson First Nation, Stz’uminus First Nation) on regionally-important environmental monitoring and stewardship programs.
- Responsibilities:_
- Maintain and organize the referral database, files, and correspondence to ensure efficient information management;
- Build, support, and maintain working relationships with project proponents, government agencies, NGOs, and consultants to ensure compliance with Halalt Policy; communicate HFN’s procedures for considering referrals and proposals for benefit agreements;
- Work closely with staff in developing policies and procedures related to referrals and benefit agreements;
- Conduct research on referrals and prepare necessary summaries to support decision-making processes;
- Assist HFN Director of Operations and other staff with reports, briefing notes, presentations, and minute-taking;
- Coordinate and attend meetings regarding referrals and benefit agreements, including meetings with HFN officials to gather input on appropriate responses to referral requests.

**Qualifications**

The following qualifications are required/assets:

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, such as archaeology, natural resources, or environmental sciences (required); an MA or MSc in one of these areas is an asset;
- Knowledge of Halalt First Nation and of the culture of Coast Salish peoples;
- A minimum of 1 - 2 years’ experience in regulatory review, consultation and engagement processes; experience working in these areas on behalf of indigenous communities is preferred;
- Proficiency in briefing memo and other report preparation;
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, database management;
- Mapping using GIS technology is an asset;
- Demonstrated ability to work with multiple knowledge types, with a cultural understanding for working with traditional knowledge holders;
- Class 5 driver’s license and insurability under HFN vehicle insurance.

**Work Conditions**

**Position Terms**
- Full-time; 35 hours per week;
- Anticipated schedule is Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm; some flexibility is required depending on program operations;
- Compensation: $65,000 - $85,000/year (dependent on education and experience); a comprehensive benefits package, including extended health benefits, EAP, and employer RPP match, is available following the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.

Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
