What is the Payroll group responsible for?

Payroll is responsible for the administration of all aspects of the payroll data, inclusive of but not limited to, processing of the semi-monthly payrolls, accurate compensation of employees, ensuring paychecks are paid according to the established schedule, conducting reconciliation audits, and interacting with business partners and 3rd party vendors.

What is the Payroll Analyst responsible for?

The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the efficient processing of the Canada payroll and duties related to the day-to-day operation of payroll processing including maintaining payroll records, calculating employees’ pay, timely reconciliation of hours worked, compiling payroll statistics, completing ad-hoc requests, staying current on reconciliations and tax
- related filings and ensuring compliance with respective Canada laws and regulations.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Payroll Analyst?
- Payroll_- Complete on
- and off-cycle payroll processing activities, for Canada payroll in an accurately, timely, and efficient manner, in compliance with multi-provincial, local, and regulatory requirements- Process regular end-to-end semi-monthly and off-cycle payrolls, reviewing for any errors/omissions; generate reports for use by accounting and other departments- Calculate and process new hires, tax forms, leaves, garnishments, transfers, pension plan, benefits, reportable fringe benefits, terminations including vacation pay, pay in lieu of notice, ROEs and any other related documents and processes- Conduct audits of payroll data and balance file totals to payroll totals- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll G/L accounts on a semi-monthly basis
- Time Management_- Checking and audit timekeeping records for compliance with established standards, maintain time and attendance records, post changes in pay, and handle all miscellaneous changes to pay records- Audit time records for errors/omissions and report to management any issues that might negatively impact payroll accuracy
- Year End_- Handle year-end procedures including reconciling payroll accounts, annual reporting to several provinces such as EHT, CSST, CPP, Worksafe BC, EI Deficiencies if any, year-end adjustments, CRA reconciliation, filing T4s & EHT and Tax returns- Coordinate with Payroll vendor on year-end related tasks and activities
- Other_- Work closely with the Payroll Manager in processing of payrolls and third-party vendor payments- Handle internal and external audit requests- Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping all information confidential- Follow and maintain internal control policies, procedures, and compliance with respect to the payroll process, including, but not limited to pay policies, payroll calendars, payroll checklists and other procedural documentation- Serve as point of contact for the payroll accounting team on cross-functional work between payroll and payroll accounting; respond to and research employee inquiries- Participate in special projects and other duties assigned

What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field- Five + years’ experience in payroll duties. A proven facility in data entry, customer service, and problem resolution is needed.-
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and will try their hand at anything assigned.- Ability to adapt to change while exuding with creativity and enjoying collaboration- Must have excellent analytical, time management and organization skills- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and other formulas)- Deep knowledge of personal income tax legislation, year-end reporting requirements and local labor law/regulations
