As a family-owned company founded in 1971 in the scrap metal recycling industry, Amix has since expanded into a wide range of services, including marine salvage, marine projects, marine towing and barging, concrete sales and steel distribution. The Amix Group consists of six companies providing specialized and quality service. These companies include Amix Recycling, Amix Marine Projects, Amix Marine Services, Amix Marine Salvage, Western Concrete, and Amix Steel and Surplus.
Amix Marine Services provides tugs, barges, marine crews and other resources to our coastal marine community. Our Marine Services fleet includes International Load Lined equipment that allows us to transport cargo anywhere between Canada and the US. The Amix fleet also includes crane barges, floats, work-boats and other marine equipment.
**Summary**:
Amix Group has a total headcount of 150 staff across different business lines. A third of the workforce are operating under a collective agreement in tugboat operations based in Campbell River, with another third working in logistics, equipment operator, and maintenance roles. The balance of the staff is in supporting and administrative roles.
Based out of their head office in New Westminster, the company is ready to bring on board an experienced HR professional. Reporting to the CEO, the new Generalist of HR will act as key advisor on workforce issues affecting the business as it continues to expand. As the sole HR professional, you will guide and manage the overall provision of HR services, policies, and programs for the company
**Responsibilities**:
- Act as key advisor to the CEO and General Manager of each division on organizational processes, skills and competencies.
- Support the management team during all merger & acquisition/divestiture activity as they arise, bringing the HR perspective to all planning meetings.
- Lead development and implementation of programs such as:
- Recruitment and selection - Provide advice and service to line Managers on hiring and disciplinary issues.
- Compensation - Analyze and modify the compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive and legally compliant programs to attract and retain talent.
- HR Policy - Ensure adherence to provincial and federal regulations on all HR practices. Ensure employees are aware of the company Code of Conduct.
- Organizational Structure - Work with the management team to ensure Amix Group has a high performing organization.
- Training - Work with the line managers and the Manager of HS&E to develop, deliver and monitor training programs for organizational effectiveness.
- Succession Planning - Ensure the company has a good handle on the progression of talent within the workforce as the company continues to grow.
- Employee Relations - Ensure all employee relation issues are managed and communicated effectively and that HR processes and systems are set-up to provide the tools needed to support the business and their employee base.
- Labour Relations - Ensure that management throughout the organization is provided with the right tools to handle employee issues, as they are governed by collective agreements, and specifically, provide strategic.
- Work with the leadership teams to ensure employee issues are addressed in a timely manner with a view for open dialogue and cooperation in all interactions.
- Develop pro-active KPI’s on HR to assist Managers in their decision-making process.
**Qualifications**:
- 5 - 8 years of HR experience, preferably with some unionized, heavy industry experience
- Hold a relevant Undergraduate degree and/or CHRP designation.
- Exhibit human resource, operational, and strategic capabilities combined with solid business acumen and financial discipline.
- Strong generalist with broad HR experience in areas including employee and labour relations, recruitment, training, communication, succession planning, and Human Rights compliance.
- Experience with a culture where HR is a service provider to the business units.
- Experience in managing the administration of collective agreements within a unionized environment.
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Knowledge of both BC and Canadian Labour and Employment Laws.
- Possess strong commitment to business process improvement, with a focus on efficient delivery of HR services.
- Exhibit strong personal values, integrity and hands-on work habits including comfort in working in an industrial setting. Recognized for treating people at all levels with respect.
- Highly energetic with a strong work ethic. Exhibits contagious enthusiasm while projecting a level of maturity required in a leadership position.
- Ability to work effectively across the employment spectrum.
