**Job Title: Sport Coordinator**
**Purpose**:The Sport Coordinator in conjunction with the Program Director will assist in the development and implementation of all sport, programs, competitions, and major games affiliated with Special Olympics NL.
**Reports to**: Program Director
**Areas of Responsibility**:
Within the overall mandate established by the SONL Board of Directors, the Sport Coordinator shall have specific responsibilities in the following areas:
**Community Support**:
- Assist the Program Director with development and implementation of chapter resources, tools and tactics that support grassroots sport and program delivery, and coach and volunteer development.
- Assist Clubs with the development and implementation of coach and volunteer recruitment and onboarding.
- Become a Coach Developer with Special Olympics Canada to facilitate National Coaching
Certification Program (NCCP) courses and provide information and resources to clubs on additional professional development opportunities.
- Assist with administration and maintenance of the Coaching Association of Canada’s (CAC) database - The Locker, to ensure all coaches and volunteers meet the minimum standards as outlined by Special Olympics Canada Pan-Canadian and SONL policies.
- Public speaking and education sessions as required.
- Attendance at club meetings and events as requested.
**Sport and Program Development**:
- Work with the Program Director to plan and coordinate sport and program expansion throughout the province.
- Work with clubs to identify areas for development and growth within their sport programs.
- Lead in the development and implementation of Healthy Athletes, and Athlete Leadership
Programs.
- Assist Program Director on all National initiatives and funding projects where needed.
- Assist in the planning and execution of Regional Leadership Council meetings.
- Lead all administration of National and Provincial recognition and award programs.
- Assist with developing and implementing strategies for athlete and volunteer recruitment and retention, including the development of new sport programs and competitive opportunities.
- Assist Youth Development Coordinator with management and development of Unified Sport as needed.
**Sport Competition and Major Games**:
- Assist with planning and implementation of all provincial, regional, and invitational competitions, including but not limited to developing an organizing committee, sport technical packages, competition format & schedules, and the development & implementation of standardized resources to support all levels of competition delivery in the province.
- Assist Organizing Committee and Chapter staff with all aspects of Provincial Competitions and
Provincial Winter/Summer Games.
- Assist with Administering, updating and implementation of the Provincial Team Program (PTP) for all Special Olympics Canada Games.
- Be a lead member of the Provincial Team Program, acting in the role of either Chef de Mission or Team Manager.
- Assist with coordinating all aspects required for athletes who take part in competitions outside
SONL, i.e., Canada Games, NL Games, Generic Sport Competitions etc.
- Assist with Games Management System and all results data at all levels of competition.
**Administration & People**:
- Provide administrative advice and strategic support to community and club volunteer committees.
- Assist SONL’s community clubs to operate within Special Olympics Canada Pan-Canadian Policies and SONL’s policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Assist with management of the provincial website and all social media platforms.
- Assist with SONL’s fundraising events as required.
- Lead the management and implementation of the provincial monthly newsletter.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Travel**:
- Travel to provincial and regional competitions by sport each year.
- Travel provincially to deliver training programs and attend various meetings.
- Travel to National competitions every two years acting in a lead role.
- Travel to National/International meetings and professional development opportunities upon request.
**Qualifications**:
- Post-Secondary Education in the field of Sport, Recreation or Volunteer management or equivalent work experience/education.
- Self starter with the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and tasks with tight timelines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities is an asset.
- Must be prepared to undergo a criminal records check, and a screening of the vulnerable sector.
- Requires some physical labor in loading/unloading equipment as needed.
**Compensation**:
- Starting Salary: $42,000.00
- Comprehensive Health, Dental and Vision Benefits: following 3 months of employment.
