**About us**

Craigdarroch Castle, located in Victoria British Columbia, is designated a National Historic Site. The Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society is a not-for-profit organization with charitable status. We offer a variety of guided, self-guided tours and digital tours.

This a Union Position with CUPE Local 3136. Shifts may be days, evenings and weekends and we offer a 36 hour - 4 Day work week. Benefits are provided after completion of the six month probationary period.

The person working in this position serves as a support person to Craigdarroch Castle’s staff and volunteers. Their duties will assist in providing a top quality visitor experience for Craigdarroch Castle’s visitors and business partners. Specific duties will involve, but not be limited to, the following: Opening and closing of the Castle, balancing the tills, assisting all volunteers and staff in the course of their duties, updating rosters and schedules, and assisting staff with special projects.

Museum Floor Supervisors must be energetic and outgoing. You will work constantly in the public eye and are always willing to provide assistance or to answer a question. You work well in a team or independently and manage your time efficiently to set and accomplish goals. You are respectful, friendly, and well presented, enjoy people, and interact well with other members of the team. You are also detail oriented, flexible, and resourceful, and adapt readily to changes in your environment.

Specific duties will involve, but not be limited to, the following:
1. To ensure the efficient management of all visitors entering Craigdarroch Castle. This will entail:

- Prepare for daily operations by counting the daily float and preparing the cash register and POS Terminal at the front entrance and/or in the Museum Store.
- At end of day run cash register totals and POS reports. Ensure all Voids and Bus Vouchers are processed. Remove Cash drawer to cash room and count following days float. Remove excess cash and receipts and deposit in safe.
- Make rounds through the castle, turning off lights and closing doors where instructed. Once secure, set alarm and exit through the basement door.
- Perform the Duties of Cashier; greeting visitors, providing information and processing cash/debit/credit/coupon transactions.
- Direct visitors to use the shoe cleaner and provide information to utilize the maps and view the castle while adhering to regulations.
- Assist with the Entrance to ensure Visitors understand the direction the map is guiding them.
- Meeting and welcoming outside of the Castle groups that have reserved a group booking. This will entail providing all group members the Castle’s floor plan and explaining how to use said floor plan along with advising all group members of Craigdarroch’s “no touch” policy.
- Provide support to Casuals by recognizing situations where assistance may be required and taking initiative to recognize when duties and/or tasks need to be completed.

2. To ensure the efficient management of all visitors touring Craigdarroch Castle. This will entail:

- The primary component of this aspect of the position is to provide a very high level of customer service. Craigdarroch Castle is funded primarily by our visitors and as such we need to ensure that each visitor’s expectations of the Castle are met when it is reasonable to do so. This includes dealing with all visitors with a smile and good manners, ensuring all visitors fully understand how to follow the self-guided tour so they do not miss any of Craigdarroch and ensuring efficient visitor flow through the Castle.

This will include providing our visitors the means to enjoy the Castle at their own pace. Some of our visitors may wish to tour through in just a manner of minutes whereas some may wish to take a couple of hours. Our goal is to ensure whatever style the visitor chooses to visit the Castle in that they receive what they wish from their tour, where reason and resources allow.
- This duty may include working as a docent, front desk cashier or museum store cashier but is expected to cover other areas, such as Entrance and/or restocking maps, brochures, etc as required.
- To help move visitors through areas when bottlenecks occur take the initiative to implement a small guided tour so visitors can more easily move from room to room.
- To assist all volunteers in the course of their duties by providing the volunteers with their breaks at designated break times. The provision of coffee breaks for volunteers by Historic House Museum Workers to be assigned by the daily supervising staff person.
- Leading group tours through Craigdarroch Castle. This will entail meeting groups outside the Castle to prepare them for their tour and then implementing the tour of the Castle.3. To serve as a steward of Craigdarroch Castle. This will entail:

- Advising all visitors of Craigdarroch Castle’s “no touch” policy in a friendly and informative manner
