**The Role**:
Under the direction of the crew supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment to support project objectives. This role contributes to the overall productivity of the crew and assists with additional tasks as required to ensure projects are completed on time and to the highest quality standards. Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Operate heavy equipment—specifically a rubber tire backhoe—to perform excavation, trenching, and material handling tasks in accordance with ROHL’s safety policies and operational procedures.
- Execute the daily plan and work sequence under the direction of the Supervisor
- Load and unload materials such as gravel, dirt, and debris using the front loader or backhoe attachment.
- Communicate with ground crew and other site personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Monitor surroundings and job site conditions for potential hazards and report any issues.
- Ensure all work meets project specifications, safety codes, and environmental regulations.
- Complete required logs, reports, and documentation accurately and timely.
- Ensure tools & equipment are constantly kept in a safe, operational condition
- Clean and perform basic maintenance to equipment
- Clean up of jobsite including re-grading areas, back filling and leveling of surrounding ground
- Check machinery before operating to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order
- Assist crew with related tasks

As the Heavy Equipment Operator, your success is measured by five key areas:

- **Safe Equipment Operation**: Operates all machinery in accordance with safety standards, site protocols, and manufacturer guidelines, proactively identifying and addressing potential hazards to maintain a zero-incident work environment.
- **Equipment Maintenance & Care**: Performs daily inspections, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting to keep equipment in optimal working condition, reducing unplanned breakdowns and repair costs.
- **Precision & Accuracy**: Operates equipment with attention to grade, alignment, and specifications, producing consistent, high-quality results that meet or exceed project requirements.
- **Team Coordination**: Maintains clear, timely communication with supervisors, spotters, and crew members to ensure smooth workflow and coordinated operations on-site.
- **Dependability**: Consistently arrives on time, fully prepared, and demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and a strong work ethic throughout each shift.

**Physical Requirements**:
This role involves a range of physical demands essential for safe and effective job performance, including:

- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection in high-noise environments and specialized respiratory equipment on designated construction sites.
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated platforms.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Potential exposure to energized utilities.
- Risk of musculoskeletal strain or injury due to physical activity.
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and cold.
- Exposure to construction-related hazards such as fumes, vibration, and loud noise.

**What You Bring**:
The following are required for this role:

- 3-5 years’ experience operating a rubber tire backhoe or similar heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of operation of front-end loaders, dozers, backhoes, and other heavy equipment
- Heavy Equipment Operators Certification would be an asset
- Strong knowledge of equipment operation, safety practices, and construction site
