- As a Waste Diversion Specialist, you will plan and implement initiatives supporting the City's household hazardous waste (HHW) and auxiliary residential programs, paint and electronics residential diversion programs. This includes overseeing contracts with third-party processors responsible for lab packing, recycling and disposal of different waste streams, training frontline, and programs' reporting. Primary duties include:
- Collaborate with field staff operating in various waste diversion programs to identify and implement opportunities for improvement and optimization.
- Collaborate in the development and delivery of accompanying communication and education materials and programs.
- Prepare and maintain all program related documents and reports, including compiling and analyzing data.
- Develop and deliver presentations to various audiences.
- Issue procurement documents and administer contracts in support of identified projects and programs.
- Work with contractors, field staff, and internal staff to ensure completion of tasks and responsibilities.
- Assess contractor performance and address issues that arise, enforcing terms of contracts.
- Liaise with members of the public, contractors, City business units, and elected officials to address and resolve issues related to waste diversion programs.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in a related field and at least 5 years of relevant project or program management experience directly related to the solid waste management or related industry is required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency), with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
- Experience with contract management and public relations, as well as experience managing household hazardous waste, paint recycling, and electronics recycling will be considered assets.
- Proficiency using ARMA Connect (Alberta Recycling Management Authority) will be considered an asset.
- Exceptional communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills are essential.
**Pre-employment Requirements**
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

- Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $45.53 - 60.86 per hour (2024 rates)
- Days of Work: This position typically works a 5
