Capital Power Corporation is seeking an individual who is driven and well versed with various aspects of Taxation

As a Tax Analyst you provide support to the VP, Taxation, and the Taxation Department with respect to day-to-day administrative functions, financial management and routine tax compliance. You are meticulously detailed individual, ensuring excellent reconciliation and consistently accurate filling of reports, preparation of documents, and effective performance of other duties assigned. You have thorough understanding of database and spreadsheet technology, and impeccable record-keeping and organizational skills. You also know the basics of tax law and the principles of confidentiality. You do not shy away from basic administrative responsibilities and are willing to go above and beyond to perform the job successfully. Having excellent communication (both written and oral), strong research capabilities and follow-through abilities to get the job done will be critical to this position.
You will contribute to our team by
- Preparing indirect tax compliance, including GST returns and sales and use tax returns and other tax information returns.
- Preparing other tax items as required, such as cash tax reports, tax installments, tax returns, Tax Authority correspondence, etc.
- Running Oracle reports and queries.
- Providing administrative and tax assistance to the Tax Department, including i-expense, management of filing systems, drafting documents and presentations, arranging technology requirements, payment processing, expense analysis, etc.
- Using analytical skills to identity potential problems and to complete routine tasks.
- Providing input to the Tax Department’s plans and directions and to the team budget and ensuring on-going appropriate relationships with other positions in the Company.
- Being involved in advising/determining process improvements to the Team’s procedures.
- Incorporating any requested changes to improve day-to-day tasks and processes; provides input where able.
- Immediately identifying any risks or non-routine issues to the Team.
- Engaging with team members and stakeholders to ensure efficient, effective administration of the Tax Department.
- Engaging with external stakeholders on behalf of, and at the direction of, the VP Taxation.
What you will bring to the role
**Education**:
- University Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field of education.
**Experience**:
- 3-5 years’ experience in a tax focused function.
Technical Skills:
- Excellent business writing skills.
- Experience with processing expenses, accounts payable and purchase orders.
- Experience with management of filing systems, scheduling meetings, booking travel, scheduling meetings, drafting documents and presentations, arranging technology requirements and payment processing.
- Understanding of business and financial support processes.
- Demonstrated capability with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook; Word; Excel; PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of basic accounting skills.
- Demonstrated capability with financial systems e.g., Oracle.
- Prior experience using a SharePoint site would be an asset.
- Strong oral communication skills including ability to deal in professional manner with external contacts and determine their needs for dissemination to VP or to deal with questions on their behalf on a priority basis.
- Ability to consult with team members to identify and understand their needs.
- Effectively engage with team members, suppliers, vendors, internal service suppliers.
- Highly motivated, conscientious individual with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to take directions well and effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very mínimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
