Recreation Head Coach

The Granite Club is looking for a full-time Recreation Head Coach to oversee the Recreation Program and implement policies and procedures approved by the Fitness and Recreation Manager and Director of Athletics, while providing the highest level of service to the Club membership. To promote recreational activities to the Club membership and to provide recreational programming for all levels, ages, and abilities, to run tournaments, teach lessons and clinics ensuring a balance of instructional and social interaction opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for the safety of all Members in all of the Recreational facilities
- Leadership and decision making for the Recreation Department in the absence of the Fitness and Recreation Manager
- Provide quality programming for Basketball, Soccer, Fencing, other recreational activities, including clinics, private instruction, camps and events.
- Plan and execute all Recreation Department Inter-Club and internal tournaments;
including visibility at all tournaments (internal and external) and ability to officiate when required
- Coordinate all of the Learning for Life Programs, including art classes, language classes,
dance classes, CPR classes, self-defense classes, and presentations/events that would be of Members’ interest.
- Instruct sport and community-based programs, camps, private lessons and drop-ins on a weekly basis.
- Assist the Fitness and Recreation Manager in all operations for the Hub, including
staffing, equipment maintenance, program ideas, events, rentals, Member inquiries and policy updates.
- Assist the Curling Manager with the daily operation of the Curling Section, including
coordinating and promoting curling leagues, providing instruction for on-ice
rentals and lessons, bonspiels and events, responding to Member inquiries and other administrative duties.
- Coordinate the seasonal SportZone in the Curling rink during the Spring and Summer months, and oversee its daily operations, including maintenance, equipment upgrades and Member bookings, and assist in planning of a Multi-purpose space and programming on Tennis Court 4 during the Fall and Winter months.
- Facility equipment inspection and maintenance duties as assigned, including being
responsible for the physical removal/installation of the SportZone equipment and flooring seasonally from the Curling Rink to Tennis Court 4
- Maintain a close relationship with Toronto French School and Crescent School in order to access gymnasium space during SportZone seasonal closures
- Oversee the Summer Golf area which includes the SkyTrak monitors and hitting cage bookings, maintenance and assisting with Member inquiries.
- Responsible for all Club activities on the Granite Common, staffing Family Fun hours during the Spring/Summer, equipment maintenance, and liaising with other Departments to coordinate other Club-wide events.
- Execute the planning, marketing, registration, billing and supervision of events that fall under the Recreation Department.
- Liaise with our Communication Department to assist with the promotion of all
Department programs and activities, including providing seasonal submissions to the Activity and Programming Guide, keeping the website up to date and ensuring programs are created in Bookit/InMotion
- Liase with other Club Departments as necessary when executing Recreation or other Club-wide events
- To prepare, where required, all necessary reports, submissions and other administrative items as requested by the Director of Athletics.
- Ensure all Recreation contractors and Staff are providing the highest quality instruction to the Members, including Monthly Quality Standard Assessment submissions
- Process all commissions for the contractors and Staff.
- Responsible for forecasting and managing the Recreation Department budget.
- Participation in ongoing professional development towards written and clearly established professional goals and objectives
- Assist and execute other Club-wide events in the Athletics Division as requested.

Required Qualifications
- Post Secondary education preferably in Recreation, Physical Education or Sports AdministrationSolid written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent Member relations, ability to problem solve, with finesse
- Previous experience in event coordination an asset
- Knowledge and understanding of accounting revenue and expense reports
- Strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple priorities and interruptions
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and supervisory skills
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, E-mail, Powerpoint.
- Knowledge of InMotion an asset
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification
- NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification or Equivalent required (or in progress)
- Certified Level 1 Curl Canada Instructor preferred
