The Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) is a multi-disciplinary team of investigators and trainees who are working to find new treatments and preventative measures to control infections that have devastating impacts on health.

The aim of the IIDR is to lead a local, national, and international effort that focuses world-class investigators, state-of-the-art facilities and innovative research and development programs in infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to position the IIDR, our network of partners, Ontario and Canada as a global leader in AMR research and innovation.

Additionally, the David Braley Centre for Antibiotic Discovery (DBCAD), a new Centre established in 2018, offers an opportunity for McMaster to take a globally recognized leadership position in this field.

The IIDR and the DBCAD priorities are to brand McMaster as the site in Canada, and in the top 5 in the world, to address the crisis of AMR and other infectious disease threats to Federal and Provincial governments, work diligently to identify new funding opportunities, work with senior management to identify philanthropic opportunities for support and communicate to the research community, the government, and the public.

**Job Summary**:
The Manager, Finance & Administration works under the direction of the Scientific Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) and with guidance from the AVP & CAO, FHS. The IIDR is a University-wide Institute with over 30 members spanning 4 Faculties and 9 departments. The Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management and administration of the IIDR operations which includes the David Braley Centre for Antibiotic Discovery (DBCAD) and the Centre for Microbial Chemical Biology (CMCB). The Manager will support the development and delivery of strategic and business planning and will need to anticipate and deflect potential operational and strategic problems, to identify sound solutions to problems that arise and to implement decisions effectively. The Manager leads and supports the management and coordination of projects, budgets and staff, external relations (including donor, partner and government relations), communications, administrative functions and project management. The Manager provides leadership, advice, support and resources to IIDR faculty members, staff, trainees and partners to foster the creation of an environment that is inclusive, diverse and engaging.

**Accountabilities**:
Strategic & Operational Planning
- Provide oversight and strategic direction on financial and budget development and assist in identifying new funding sources, business plans and opportunities to support a long-term self sustainability strategy for the Centre for Microbial Chemical Biology (CMCB).
- Participate in the development and implementation of both short and long-term plans to ensure the effective and efficient use of all operational resources.
- Provide strategic direction for the Institute and Centre, including development and tracking of key performance indicators
- Development and reporting of milestones for funding purposes.
- Act as the primary liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing advice, feedback and recommendations to t he Institute members and personnel.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures of the institute, ensuring compliance with University guidelines and policies.
- Accountable for: Institute Executive Committee meetings (quarterly), Management Advisory Committee meetings (annually), Ext ern al Scientific Advisory Board, coordination of institutional reports. Ensure functionality of all Institutes governance committees and structures.
- Working with the Scientific Director and AVP & CAO, determine a donor relation strategy.
- Coordination with other centres, institutes, and initiatives (e.g. MIRA, Global Nexus), on strategic opportunities related to infectious disease research (e.g. CFREF, CBRF).
- Prepare reports for key donors to the Institute and Centre and participate in the development of proposals for potential donors

Project Management
- Actively manage the operations of large-scale grants, for example, Ontario Research Fund (ORF) and Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to ensure milestones and targets are met (research project management).
- Responsible for guiding decisions made by Institute Committees within the policies and procedures of the Institute and ensuring the decision outcomes are executed accordingly.
