Survey Specialist I

Our highly accurate, wellbore positioning and drilling guidance technology is used to assist the operator in better defining the trajectory of the wellbore and certain pieces of equipment in the well and to assist the driller in accurately drilling to a predetermined target. Today, Gyrodata is the leading supplier worldwide of precision wellbore survey services to the energy, mining, environmental and construction industries.
**Job Function / Purpose**
- Achieve Competence in performing at least one type of Gyro 200 level or Measurement While Drilling (MWD) 200 level (referred to as “Designated Service”) survey operation, first under supervision of a Survey Specialist with greater experience and then without supervision; “Competence” is defined as the ability to successfully perform survey services without supervision
**Essential Duties**
- Achieve Competence in the following tasks for at least one type of Designated Service survey operation:
- Using all tools, gear and equipment to perform survey operations in the field
- Using Gyrodata, Inc. software, including Field apps, SharePoint, and Multivendor and OASIS
- Using field service manuals while performing survey operations
- Using preventative maintenance manuals
- Checking, testing, assembling and installing tools and equipment in the field
- Collecting surveys and/or additional data
- Removing and disassembling tools and equipment in the field
- Presenting survey results to clients at jobsites
- Preparing and maintaining documentation for client jobs, including job tickets, daily reporting, end-of-well reports and all applicable administrative paperwork
- Performing general shop duties for tools and equipment, including testing and verifying
- Submit to and comply with all applicable Gyrodata, Inc. and pre-employment screenings and qualifications, including audiograms, physicals and drug testing
- Complying with all Gyrodata, Inc. and client safety and training requirements and providing corresponding documentation, including Jobsite Awareness forms and site work permits
- Travel as directed by Operations Coordinator to perform job duties, including rotating assignments in various regions
- Represent Gyrodata, Inc. in a positive and professional manner
- Once Competence is achieved for the Designated Service, serve as lead on lesser complexity jobs as assigned by the Operations Coordinator
**HSE Function**
- Comply with applicable safety standards and maintain a safe working environment
**QA Function**
- Comply with applicable quality assurance standards
**Required Qualifications**
- Strong written and oral English communication skills
- High School Diploma, GED or regional equivalent
- Successful completion of Surveyor Trainee position or equivalent experience
- Valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record
- Ability to drive extensively to well sites in remote locations and work at well site locations
- Ability to work non-office hours and weekends as necessary, as well as 12+ hour day and/or night shifts as needed
- Ability to perform duties according to on call schedule
- Ability to use basic hand tools
- Must have valid passport and ability to travel internationally
- Must have visual acuity, enough to monitor multiple computer screens, record logs and readouts for long periods of uninterrupted time
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Associate’s Degree in a technical or mechanical field
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a similar field from an accredited 4 year college or university
- Experience in oilfield services industry
**Working Conditions**
- The job is performed at the client’s outdoor job site and involves exposure to the elements, including extreme heat and cold, and significant travel. The job requires exposure to safety hazards, such as exposure to heavy machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment, and possible exposure to toxic chemicals. The job requires routine physical exertion, including sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to sixty (60) pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting and a wide range of physical motion. The job requires operation of tools, machinery, equipment, computers and telephones. The job requires following written and oral instructions, attention to detail, ability to multitask, ability to work with others, ability to meet deadlines, compliance with safety protocols and regular attendance. The job requires attention to emergency and time sensitive tasks, which may include working irregular and prolonged hours. The job requires following established policies and procedures and meeting quality and safety standards. The job requires making decisions based on experience and knowledge without supervision, as well as supervising, directing and training others. The job requires responsibility for results.
