The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans.
Our main responsibilities are:
- Funding supports for municipalities
- A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment
- Protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders
- Province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans
- Management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province's three Special Areas
- Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal
**Role Responsibilities**:
The Assessment Services Branch of Municipal Affairs is responsible for the valuation of designated industrial property in Alberta. As an assessor, your role is to conduct property assessments that follow that the regulations and guidelines for regulated assessment, as well as bringing best practices in assessment and valuation to support the effective, efficient, and transparent delivery of property assessments on behalf of Alberta’s municipalities.
**The responsibilities include**:
- Preparation and production of DI property assessments.
- Work with property owners, tax agents, and municipalities to ensure accurate and timely information is available to support assessment.
- Conduct property inspections in support of accurate valuations.
- Provide expert assessment advice on inventory valuation to ensure compliance with the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and associated regulations.
- Assist in defending DI property assessments before the Land and Property Rights Tribunal (LPRT).
- Offer guidance and advice to stakeholders on DI property inventory and valuation,.
- Ensure consistency and compliance in communications with assessment stakeholders regarding DI property assessments, aligning with the MGA and relevant regulations.

**Qualifications**:

**Required**: Professional Designation related to assessment (AMAA, CAE, AACI, or equivalent). University degree in a related field of real property appraisal and assessment or related field focused on the identification and evaluation of designated industrial property supplemented by 5 years progressively responsible experience.
**Equivalency**: Related designations, experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
**Knowledge Required**:
- Minimum of five years of experience in preparing, delivering, and defending industrial property assessments using accepted valuation approaches and mass appraisal techniques.
- Subject Matter Expertise in oil and gas field equipment and facilities or other heavy industrial equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of process and instrumentation drawings for DI property assessment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and related legislation.
- Analytical and logical reasoning skills.
