Surrey, Canada Anika Youth Services Full time

**About Anika Youth Services (AYS)**

At Anika Youth Services, we support at-risk youth in the Surrey and Langley communities through compassionate, relationship-based care. We provide wrap-around services including long-term housing, outreach support, and life-skills programming for youth who have experienced significant trauma, instability, and loss.

Our work is rooted in attachment theory, trauma-informed practice, and crisis intervention. Youth are supported through individualized plans that address mental health, emotional regulation, behavioural challenges, and social development. Many of the youth we serve have complex needs and require consistent, skilled, and compassionate support.

**The Opportunity**

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Support Worker to join our frontline team. This role involves intensive, hands-on work with youth in housing and community-based settings and is ideal for someone who is calm under pressure, emotionally grounded, and deeply committed to supporting vulnerable youth.

Youth in our care may present with aggressive behaviours, emotional dysregulation, and self-injurious behaviours as expressions of unmet needs and past trauma. As a Youth Support Worker, you will be expected to respond to these situations with professionalism, empathy, and strong clinical judgement. This includes using trauma-informed de-escalation strategies, maintaining clear and consistent boundaries, and ensuring the safety of both youth and staff during periods of escalation or crisis.

**Role Expectations**

This position requires comfort and confidence working in environments where behaviour can be unpredictable. You will support youth through moments of crisis, including incidents of aggression, verbal escalation, property destruction, and self-harm behaviours. You will work collaboratively with your team to implement safety plans, follow behaviour support strategies, and document incidents accurately and professionally.

In addition to crisis support, you will play a key role in building strong, trusting relationships with youth. You will support daily routines, model healthy coping strategies, and teach practical life skills such as budgeting, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and maintaining a safe living space. Consistency, patience, and emotional resilience are essential to success in this role.

**A valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required**, as is Standard First Aid Level 1 with CPR, a clear criminal record check, and strong documentation and computer skills.
