**Title**: Bus Driver
**Salary**: $28 - $30 per hour
**Contract**: Casual - oncall
**Hours**: Irregular, on-call hours based on community needs, particularly during staffing shortages. Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, or evenings.
**Location**: Ladysmith, BC
**About the role**
The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting community members around the nation and to the Oyster Bay Bus stop for connections to Duncan, Ladysmith, and Nanaimo. This role requires the operation of the bus, including managing a wheelchair lift and ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Safely operate the community shuttle bus to transport passengers to designated locations, including Oyster Bay for further connections.
2. Operate a wheelchair lift and assist passengers on and off the bus.
3. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the bus, both inside and out.
4. Conduct daily pre and post-trip safety inspections.
5. Liaise with the Community Manager for vehicle maintenance.
6. Enforce bus regulations and manage passenger behavior respectfully.
7. Maintain a consistent and reliable schedule, accommodating changes based on ridership.
8. Ensure the bus is thoroughly cleaned, with cleaning typically scheduled between 13:00-16:00 as part of shift duties, when applicable.
9. Perform other duties as assigned
**EDUCATION & CERTIFCATE OR LICENSES**
- Valid class 4 License or higher level
- Current first aid certification
- Recent medical exam, criminal check and drivers abstract
**EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE**
- Experience driving buses equipped with a wheelchair lift.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and road regulations.
- Familiarity with the routes and connections within and around the SFN community preferred.
