**QUALIFICATIONS & CREDENTIALS**:

- **Early Childhood Educator (Level 3) certification preferred**:

- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a child care centre
- Leadership experience in a child care setting preferred

The Director share the responsibility for the operation of Precious Sprouts Childcare Center. He or she provides leadership and oversee all aspects of the operation of the programs and services of the center.

**MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION**

**Implement the center’s philosophy of early childhood education and care**
- Monitor day-to-day operations
- Manage enrolment
- Manage facilities, materials, supplies & equipment
- Comply with legislation and regulatory requirements
- Work with external resources and agencies
- Work with schools - develop positive and supporting relationships
- Build community awareness and mutually supportive relationships
- Collaborate with employer - build effective relationships through ongoing communication
- Maintain effective communication with families, staff and community
- Implement the center’s policies consistently
- Develop policies and procedures - make recommendations to the Operator/Owner - Participate in policy review and updating
- Provide all required forms - attendance, accident/incident, cleaning, staff attendance, staff hours, etc.
- Develop staff work schedules well in advance
- Manage payroll
- Act as an advocate for the program in the community
- Address any concerns or complaints in an effective manner & keep a record of actions taken
- Evaluate programs
- Maintain confidentiality at all times

**MANAGEMENT OF FINANCES**
- Collect fees from families, keep accurate records and provide receipts as required
- Submit subsidy claims in a timely manner
- Develop a budget for day to day expenses for submission to the Operator/Owner
- Follow the approved budget and obtain approval from the Operator/Owner for any expenses not included in the budget
- Maintain records and receipts for petty cash & any other expenditures

**CHILDREN’S PROGRAM**

**Protect and respect the rights of children**
- Provide a child centered learning environment
- Provide programming support to the staff
- Oversee and support the child care staff in planning, implementation, and evaluation of daily experiences based on the individual developmental needs and interests of the children
- Assist the Early Childhood Educators in planning and evaluating child centered inclusive learning environments both indoors and outdoors
- Be a positive model for the staff and support them in the provision of a quality program
- Ensure the children have daily scheduled opportunities for outdoor play (weather permitting)
- Utilize community resources in the children’s program
- Ensure the staff has the materials, equipment and supplies required to implement the program for the children
- Be in ratio with the children when required to help with ratios and to model for the staff

**FAMILIES**

**Work in partnership with families**
- Welcome families to the center and act as the host to perspective clients as required
- Display a non-judgmental attitude towards a variety of parenting and/or lifestyles, attitudes, and values
- Register children and provide an orientation to families
- Develop positive relationships and maintain open communication
- Support families in locating and accessing any resources to support them in their child rearing roles
- Support families in accessing supports for children with special needs and work collaboratively with affiliated agencies, professionals and support staff
- Encourage parent participation in the program
- Be a positive role model of child-adult interactions and guidance
- Encourage family involvement in the program
- Plan events for families

**HEALTH & SAFETY**

**Create a safe and healthy environment and safe workplace**
- Promote healthy living for staff, children and their families
- Stay current with research and emerging best practices in health and safety as it relates to the field of early childhood and implements best practices
- Train the staff in implementing the health and safety policies & ensure policies and procedures are consistently implemented
- Develop forms to record health & safety procedures (i.e. room cleaning checklists, toy cleaning checklists, indoor & outdoor safety inspections, etc.)
- Manage illness
- Respond to accidents and emergencies
- Ensure children who are ill or injured are provided with medical attention as required
- Oversee the nutrition program and menu planning - purchasing, receiving and food storage
- Monitor food preparation
- Oversee security and emergency response - implement security measures, prepare for emergency situations
- Assess risk and address identified concerns immediately
