You have an insatiable curiosity to discover what’s new and will help lead a team reporting on people, places and stories not covered by other media. You’re comfortable working with a wide range of topics such as local news, lifestyle and culture that includes but is not exclusive to: breaking news, politics, real estate, events, nightlife, local travel and outdoors. **What You'll Do** - Act as a champion and leader for the blogTO brand - Mentor and lead more junior writers when it comes to themes & tone of coverage, and story selection - Collaborate with senior members of the ZDN editorial team when it comes to content coverage and direction, as well as syndication. - Coordinate a seasonal editorial calendar with ideas for recurring and unique content - Coordinate, suggest, and spearhead stories/series suitable for local and regional editorial, both daily and longer term - Oversee food and lifestyle content, including legacy series - Pursue your own editorial assignments and work as a reporter to bring your stories to fruition. - Provide ongoing feedback to team members, nurture and train staff as applicable. - Use analytics to pitch story ideas that are compelling and will drive conversation - Conduct necessary research required to produce content, which may include but is not limited to conducting interviews and attending events - Maintain a long-term editorial calendar that details articles, columns, editorials, photography, and art needs. - Liaise with internal departments on the development of series and features - Lead editorial team meetings and pitch feasible story ideas - Contribute to the conversation about culture in your city - Work with a driven and highly motivated team to support overall editorial operations - Plan, assign, and schedule content, as well as review pitches. - Monitor engagement of articles and accept feedback from the editorial team in order to make necessary improvements or adjustments to work. - Increase credibility of the company through quality, trustworthy, and ethical work - Embrace and encourage a culture based on teamwork, creativity, and having fun **What You Have** - At least five years as a journalist, with two in a senior leadership role - Proven professional experience as a digital reporter writing news, lifestyle, food, culture and/or other content. - Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and succeed in a fast-paced environment, as well as work collaboratively with the team to bring ideas to life - Excellent time management and attention to detail. - Willingness to occasionally work unconventional hours, evenings, and weekends totaling 40 hours per week. - Familiarity with the Google Workspace - Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop is also an asset. **What We Offer** - Flexible paid time off policy to ensure you're able to get the break you need and work at an optimized level. - Opportunity for both professional and personal growth. - Hybrid work environment. - Benefits package including dental, vision and extended health starting after 3 months. **Please submit your resume in PDF format only.
