Multiplex Assistant Operator

The Multiplex Assistant Operator is responsible for the operation of the sewing machines producing sewn book blocks from collated signatures on the Multiplex System. Together with the Lead Operator, the Assistant Operator is responsible to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the multiplex system to produce a high-quality product to the prescribed quantity. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting basic machine performance, making adjustments and calling for additional resources as required.

Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday & Saturday, 6 AM - 6 PM
Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday, 6 AM - 6 PM

**Job Requirements**:

- High School Diploma/GED/Mature Student Diploma
- Printing and binding experience an asset
- Machine operation experience
- Basic machine troubleshooting and maintenance experience
- Effective English use and comprehension
- Digital Literacy (Microsoft Office, keyboarding skills)
- Essential Math skills (Metric and Imperial measurements, problem solving, conversion charts, etc.)
- Effective use of production related documents to accomplish job tasks
- Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery, equipment, product
- Demonstrated organization, prioritizing, time and stress management skills
- Able to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Ability to operate and use small tools
- Continuous learning/improvement mindset
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating self-management capabilities
- Able to deal with people diplomatically and professionally at all times
- Excellent manual dexterity
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts
- Must be willing to work at all Friesens facilities as needed
- Knowledge of workplace safety, safe lifting and handling procedures

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Work and communicate effectively with the Lead Operator, Managers and co-workers
- Carry out jobs according to the schedule or as directed by the Production Manager
- Operate the sewing machines for quality, efficiency and productivity
- Understand the job requirements from information on the docket and other sources
- Set up the sewing machines as required
- Run sample book blocks making necessary adjustments
- Run stock for the job, performing periodic visual and measurement checks
- Stack book blocks neatly on skids and identify finished component storage
- Perform sewing machine maintenance as described in the Sewing Machine Maintenance Binder and the Operator’s Manual
- Practice Friesens safety procedures for equipment and plant situations
- Other duties as assigned by the Production or Operations Manager

**Education**: Preferred
- High School Diploma or better
