**Job Title: Laboratory Technician - Geochem**

**Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager**

**Department: Geochem**

**Basic Purpose**:
Reporting to the Geochem Lab Manager, the Laboratory Technician - Geochem is responsible for processing mineral samples using different methods such as digestion, physical and chemical techniques and whole rock fusion. This individual will operate laboratory equipment and apparatus to prepare solutions of gas, liquid, reagents and sample formulations.

**Key Accountability/Responsibilities**:

- Ensure safe, accurate and efficient processing of incoming samples in priority sequence while using laboratory equipment and apparatus
- Set up and conduct analyses using different techniques such as spectroscopy and physical/chemical techniques
- Prepare solutions of gas or liquid, reagents and sample formulations in a safe manner
- Digest samples according to written procedure without deviation unless authorized in writing by the Geochem Lab Manager or Supervisor
- Develop and conduct programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards of raw materials, chemical intermediates and products
- Compile records and interpret experimental or analytical results
- Accurate preparation and documentation of reagents according to written procedure without deviation
- Perform thorough document quality checks at all stages of sample and material handling
- Halt production where necessary by Hold card and immediately report problems/issues to the Supervisor
- Operate, maintain and ensure calibration records are kept for equipment according to written instruction
- Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable
- Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Other duties or tasks as assigned from time to time

**Skills and Knowledge**:

- Completion of a technical diploma, post-secondary degree or equivalent
- Previous experience in a mineral processing/analytical lab environment considered an asset
- Working knowledge and familiarity of WHMIS and GLP a bonus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Keen attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
- Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting
- Ability to handle weights of up to 50 lbs for prolonged periods
- Open and inclusive mindset with a willingness to work in a team dynamic
