Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified Full - Time Permanent Transition Worker, to provide support for the Compass Program and create a safe environment for youth.

What We Do

YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. We provide shelter, residential and day programming to youth who access our services. Based in Edmonton, YESS provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 shelter, a drop-in resource centre, temporary supportive housing, temporary independent cohort housing, and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.

We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

What You Will Do

The Transition Worker is responsible for inquiring and identifying transitional pathways with youth to ensure a smooth transition and connection for success to natural supports and community.

**The shift schedule is**:
**Wednesday & Thursday 8:00 pm - 8:00 am, Friday 9:00 pm - 8:00 am**

**Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 9:00 pm - 8:00 am & Saturday 8:00 pm - 8:00 am**

**Location**:9310-82 Avenue, Edmonton AB

Responsibilities include:

- Providing consistent and transparent intake processes for youth
- Assess the risk and vulnerability of the individual and respond with appropriate risk management strategies
- Adhering to agency protocol
- Building a relationship with youth, community resources and family connections
- Collaborate with other departments and partners to create holistic life skills planning for youth
- Develop and assess transition pathways for youth; walking beside youth as they transition out of care
- Support moving costs and processes
- Assess life skills and capacity while youth are living independently
- Providing support to the Nexus Youth Shelter
- Support and develop autonomy for youth integrating into the community
- Demonstrate professionalism and a willingness to collaborate with community partners through investment in the development of working relationships
- Provide accurate referrals and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of community resources as well as the programming available through YESS internally and externally

Additionally, you will provide a professional level of service to donors, promote the agency in a positive manner to the outside community and share information, communicate, and collaborate with other YESS staff.

You will be qualified to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth. You have a harm reduction mind set and can provide suicidal ideation intervention and safety planning. You also know how to build community support connections.

What You Bring
- Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field (Equivalent relevant professional experience will be considered)
- A minimum of two-years experience in youth work directly related to:

- Transitional living
- Working with high-risk youth
- Working with social services
- Experience navigating high risk youth
- Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
- Experience working in shelters or drop-in centers will be considered an asset
- Training in non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention and harm reduction would be consider an asset

Prerequisites
- Standard first-aid certification
- Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
- Valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract
- One million personal liability vehicle insurance
- Regardless of work location you will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved accommodation. Rapid testing will not be accepted as an alternative to vaccination, except individuals who cannot be vaccinated based on medical or other protected grounds outlined in the Alberta Human Rights Act
