The purpose of the position is to reduce the incidence of youth crime and entry into the formal justice system by providing a police based intervention service which assists the police with child/youth and family problems where the police have identified child/youth behavior that places them at actual or potential conflict with the law. This position is part of the core team responsible for Youth Justice Service province wide.
**Duties will include but are not limited to**:
- Provides one on one case management to clients;
- Maintains file documentation on individual cases;
- Provides short term counseling, crisis intervention and/or support to youth and families;
- Provides support to local schools in their management of youth with actual or potential for conflict with the law;
- Organizes and chairs case conferences;
- Designs and develops programs with a crime prevention focus;
- Participates in community initiatives to reduce criminal behavior;
- Fosters partnerships, both traditional and non-traditional, to address the needs of young people in the community;
- Delivers cognitive-behavioral based programs to young persons across the division to change thinking patterns;
- Liaises with other agencies and community organizations;
- Other related duties as required;
**Minimum Qualifications**:
- Certification in CPR and First Aid;
- Valid Driver’s License;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record and will be required to provide; proof of an acceptable criminal record check prior to commencing employment;
- Successful applicant may be required to obtain a Level II Security Clearance.
