The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society are in search of a part-time skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This role is well suited for an individual interested in being a part of a very busy Spay and Neuter Clinic working with a team of veterinarians, RVTs and other professionals all working with a goal to help solve pet overpopulation through prevention. The role is ideal for someone who is highly organized; detail oriented, delivers a high degree of customer service and enjoys working as part of a team.

**About the opportunity**:
The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in the day to day activities of the Spay and Neuter Clinic. Reporting to the Clinic Supervisor, the Veterinary Assistant is responsible for assisting with intake of all animals, and recording the weight, microchip information and vaccine information into the database. He/she will assist the Veterinarian with physical exams; help to move animals to and from the operating room and to recovery; and support preparation for surgeries and cleanup afterwards. Highly reliable, accurate and trustworthy, the individual exudes the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism. The role requires someone who likes a blend of clinic activity, administration and has the physical ability to support the lifting and transfer of animals.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Assist with animal intake
- Weighs cats and records weights/changes
- Inputs animals weights, changes, microchip numbers vaccines and prints certificates
- Assists the veterinarian with physical exams
- Assists the RVT with sedation and surgical prep as required
- Assists moving animals to and from OR/Recovery
- Completes microchip appointments
- Prepares post-operative packages and medication for clients
- Prepares paperwork for next day’s appointments
- Prepares for upcoming appointments by sending consent form reminders, payment reminders and adding animals to database
- Supports sanitation process by cleaning instruments, ET tubes and hoses, laundry
- Clean kennels and kennel rooms
- Other duties as requested and/or assigned.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Education: Vet Assistant Certificate preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in veterinary medicine
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge and/or ability to support restraint with both dogs and cats
- Experience with Microsoft Office primarily Excel and Word
- Must be reliable and punctual
