**Primary Purpose**:
The Manager, Emergency Planning and Response leads the planning for, and management of, emergency situations to implement effective emergency and business continuity planning and the safety of people, infrastructure, and environment. The Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery will work closely with USask’s Protective Services to plan, develop, and execute integrated emergency response programs and actions.
**Nature of Work**:
The Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery will lead the campus community in development and execution of emergency response plans, develop a business continuity program related to emergency disruptions, participate in institutional emergency management responses, implement emergency response plan training, drills, and tabletops, continually improve the emergency response and emergency management program, address issues and concerns, respond to technical queries, promote best practices in lockdown and emergencies, and works with stakeholders to meet applicable legislative requirements.
The Manager, Emergency Planning and Recovery periodically works in potentially hazardous environments, responds to and assists with emergency situations, and will align with our values and commitments to an all-hazards approach including:
- **Emergency Management.** The university uses the four, interdependent components of emergency management to support continuous improvement of policies and procedures and to maintain a safe environment for work and study. The components are:
- **Protection and Restoration.** The university has the objective to protect its critical infrastructure and property, to protect the environment, to reduce social/economic losses, to protect university reputation, and to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
- **Risk Based.** The university uses a risk-based approach to emergency management and establishes processes and controls to identify and mitigate risk to an acceptable level.
**Accountabilities**:
Develops, implements, and manages emergency response and management policy, plans, procedures, and postings while ensuring collaboration with numerous areas, including senior leadership, with consideration of operational diversity and that legislative requirements are met.
Develops and implements a business continuity management system that will allow USask to continue and/or resume operations in the event of business disruption
Leads the planning process of major events and public health emergencies and integrates and cooperate with the activities and persons of organizations involved in the University emergency planning and emergencies.
Provides technical expertise, communications, as well as accurate and timely advice to the university community in support of emergent situations
Trains and educates emergency response and emergency management personnel and the university community.
Collaborates with USask Protective Services, public safety officials, and government agencies to publicly communicate and institutionally respond appropriately during an emergency.
Ensures planning and solutions retain Indigenous and EDI priorities, commitments, actions and outcomes.
Supports actions against discriminatory or racist behavior in our university; contributing to the dismantling of institutional structures, policies and processes that contribute to inequalities faced by marginalized groups.
