**Position Summary**

The Veterinary Assistant ensures that the patient receives the highest level of customer service upon entry of the hospital to their final interaction. Through handling patients with treatments, booking appointments and product education, as well as assisting veterinarians conduct appointments and preparing specimens for reference labs to helping with record completion and filing the Veterinary Assistant handles all aspects of the clinic.

**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities**

Patient Care:

- Aid in the care of the patient by walking them to examination rooms, talking and calming patients, restraining if needed prior to, during and after treatment.
- Assist Veterinarian in conducting appointments.
- Prepare specimens for reference lab.
- Communicate with and educate owners in a compassionate, tactful, professional manner.
- Educate owners on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
- Create treatment plans and communicate them effectively and thoroughly, with confidence, to clients.

Administrative:

- Update medical records as needed.
- Maintain constant communicate with doctors, and technicians.
- Record necessary information for hospitalized patients.
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, surgery suite, treatment area, all surfaces
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and longevity by vacuuming pet hair from wheels and
- equipment.
- Discard syringes, vials, containers in appropriate containers.
- Complete bookings
- Complete patient medical records and file
- Answers the phone and handles incoming patient needs.
- Keep reception area clean and organized.

**Educational / Certification Requirement**

Completion of accredited veterinary assistant program.

Experience in a fast paced client based, service delivery environment with professionals would be very beneficial.

Treatments.

Knowledge of PMS.

**Working Conditions**

This position functions in a patient centric professional environment. This position is physically demanding requiring lifting, standing, walking majority of the day, and is exposed to hazardous materials and physical harm (i.e.: zoonotic disease, bites, stains, cleaning solutions etc.).

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract

**Salary**: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 27 - 36 per week
