About you and this role:
The Fort Saskatchewan Power & Utilities Department has an opening for a Relay Technician, who will ensure the safe and reliable acceptance, commissioning, startup, and ultimate operation of protective relaying, electrical metering, and SCADA systems. This role is located in Fort Saskatchewan (AB, CAN).

The P&U organization manages power, steam, and utility supply to the Fort Saskatchewan site which includes ethylene, polyethylene, and ethylene glycol production.

**Responsibilities**:
- Areas of responsibilities will include the Fort Saskatchewan site (i.e. distribution and transmission substations, power plant switch rooms, process plant switch rooms, and power dispatching systems).- Attention to detail is a daily requirement due to the potential for system upsets and lost production.- Maintain the relay calibration database up to date (monthly accounting).- Review and revise meter & relay one-lines and issue updates.- Follow testing procedures and update or create new procedures as required.- Improve implementation of computer-aided relay testing.- Testing and calibration of electromechanical, solid state, and microprocessor-based relays.- Change and/or download revised relay settings and test to confirm- Power distribution event response & investigations.

Required Qualifications:
- A minimum of an Electrical Technologist Diploma is required.- A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience is required.- Working knowledge of current transformers (CT) and voltage/potential transformers (VT/PT) circuits and basic relaying circuits.- Working knowledge on relay testing (solid state and electronic)- Working knowledge of basic substation configurations (Ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, Main-Tie-Main, etc.)- Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.- Must be comfortable and competent to work with energized control and protection circuits (120Vac/125VDC).- Must be able to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams as well as troubleshoot control circuits from such drawings.- Must have good computer skills, being able to perform record keeping functions associated with the work.- A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.
