Our L'Arche community is seeking an energetic, compassionate individual who is willing to share life alongside individuals with and without developmental disabilities. Successful applicants will belong to a community setting, learn new skills, and develop meaningful relationships. This is a casual position. Casual Assistants are able to request shifts across a variety of homes and programs at a variety of times. The position suits people who desire a flexible schedule and the ability to choose when they work. We expect Casual Assistants to be available to work across our community at different times and to have good availability to respond to our changing needs.

**Availability to begin training immediately is an asset.**

Daily rhythm and responsibilities are much like in any household where members of the household require personal care support:

- Assisting Core Members with their morning and evening routines
- Assisting with bathing and using the toilet as needed
- Supporting Core Members in following the direction of medical professionals including administering medication
- Cooking & cleaning
- Grocery shopping
- Yard work as required

More importantly Assistants have the responsibility of building community by spending time getting to know people in the home, sharing activities together, and learning about themselves and others as they discover that they can just be themselves and be valued and appreciated for who they are.

**Qualifications**:**
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- First Aid CPR/AED
- Core Competencies as required by the Department of Community Services
- This role involves manual handling - ability to lift up to 25kg and to use hoists and lifts safely
- Ability to wear PPE as required and directed by our L'Arche community including masks, gowns, and other PPE that may be required to keep people with intellectual disabilities and other employees safe
- Previous experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities is an asset
- Driver's License is an asset
- Ability to travel to work during inclement weather including winter storms and severe weather events or to make arrangements to find a suitable replacement
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
