**Manufacturing Specialist**:
The Manufacturing Specialist, is responsible to support the manufacturing processes and to increase manufacturing efficiencies within different stage of construction at Vancouver Shipyards. In addition, improvement of the workflow within the production areas of metal cutting, fabrication, welding, outfitting, painting is a major responsibility. This involves comprehensive analysis to find waste in manufacturing and eliminate them using scientific approach.

**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, V7P 2R2.**

**What you’ll do**
- Support the manufacturing processes in cutting, fitting, welding, outfitting etc.
- Perform time studies and maintain manufacturing time standards data
- Build basic scripting, routing and manpower requirements
- Calculate the workspace requirements and design strategies to use the workspace effectively
- Create and maintain manufacturing instructions
- Identify and remove waste in manufacturing processes using lean methodologies
- Investigate non-conformance to determine root cause and develop/implement corrective action with follow-up as required
- Create and maintain tooling requirements and assist in design concepts for jigs and fixtures to support manufacturing
- Work with AutoCAD or other modelling software to create drawings for layouts, tools and fixtures
- 70% of day will be spent on production line
- Afternoon shift might be required

**What you’ll bring**
- Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineer or equivalent experience and education
- Over 5 years of experience in heavy manufacturing environment, preferably shipbuilding
- Lean six sigma certified greenbelt or blackbelt
- Motivated with creative energy, initiative and perseverance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationship with trade workers and managers
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must possess excellent presentation, organization and problem-solving skills
- PC proficiency required. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
