The Town of Morinville is currently seeking diverse applicants with all backgrounds and experience levels to assist with the upcoming Municipal Election on a casual contract basis. Advance polling shifts are available on October 11, 16 and 18 in addition to the Election Day of October 20, 2025.
This is an ideal position for those with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for interacting with the public. The following opportunities are available:

- Presiding Deputy Returning Officers (PDRO) - Supervisory
- Deputy Returning Officers (DRO) - General Election Positions
- Ballot Counters

Presiding Deputy Returning Officers (PDRO) - Supervisory
The Presiding Deputy Returning Officer (PDRO) supervises the election workers in the voting station and is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of voting activities. The PDRO ensures election workers follow procedures set out in the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA).
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Significant authority in the voting station to ensure everything runs smoothly.
- Oversees all aspects of the voting station, including setup, operation, and closure, in accordance with the procedures outlined.
- Supervise, direct and assist the election team.
- After the election, PDROs may also be tasked with supervising the Ballot Counters and oversee the counting process for the duration required to complete the ballot count.
- Responsible for organizing materials and inputting information into the required forms and providing the results of the count to the Returning Officer.
- Managing closing procedures at the end of every election event.

This position is required to attend all Advance Voting, Election Day and post-election responsibilities include Counting of ballots.
Deputy Returning Officers (DRO)
The Deputy Returning Officers (DRO) are the most versatile of our election positions. In this position, you may find yourself greeting voters at the entrance of the voting station or at the registration table, confirming a voter’s identification. You may also direct voters throughout the voting process to ensure a good flow and a positive voting experience.
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Makes sure the polling station opens and closes on time.
- Sets up the poll with the necessary supplies.
- Verifies electors’ ID and enforces ID policy.
- Issues the ballot to the elector and indicates the instructions to follow.
- Completes the appropriate paperwork to record that an elector has voted.
- Manages the custody of ballots and ballot boxes.
- Ensures safe transportation and storage of material between voting days and between the last day and election night.
- On election night: may assist with counting the ballots, completing the related forms and communicating the results to the Returning Officer.
- Returns the ballot box and related materials to the Returning Officer, as instructed, at the end of voting.

Ballot Counter
The Ballot Counter is responsible for all aspects of the counting process once the voting station has closed. Ballot Counters will work in teams of 2-3 and will validate each other’s counts to ensure accuracy. This position may require additional days of attendance to complete the count.
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Counting the ballots, completing the related forms and communicating the results to the Returning Officer.
- Returns the ballot box and related materials to the Returning Officer, as instructed, at the end of voting.

**Qualifications**:

- Must be a resident of Alberta and at least 16 years old on Election Day.
- Prior election experience would be considered a definite asset, especially municipal elections.
- You must be available to attend the mandatory in-person training session.
- Ability to attend all or the majority of Advance Voting and Election Day shifts is preferred.
- Access to a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle and phone is an asset for collecting Institutional Votes on Election Day.
- Strong communication, mathematic and comprehension skills.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work long hours while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Ability to adhere to directions and standards, and the ability to learn in a short time frame.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

**Hours of Work**:

- Election Day: October 20, 2025. Hours of work for Presiding Deputy Returning Officers and Deputy Returning Officers will vary with shifts between the hours of 7:00 am - 9:00 pm (or until the voting station is closed, supplies are returned, and ballot accounts are complete. Hours of work for Ballot Counters will be from 7:00 pm to approximately midnight, with the potential for additional shifts the following day.
- There will be Advance polls held on October 11, 16 and 18, 2025.

**Compensation**:

- Wage Rate is $
